A bit disappointing really
Rajasthan tours, India

Seeing tigers in Ranthambore National Park- yes two less than twenty feet away. I had no expectations of seeing so to come across one resting beside the track who was then joined by another was amazing. (more)Charmian Hobbs
Don't hesitate to book. Just go! It was amazing. The operator uses local transport, including trains. The hotels were small businesses and not part of large world wide chains. Our group was a mix of ages from 20 year olds to over 60's so it is suitable for all wanting to experience India. (more)Kathryn Heirons
Most memorable - the amazing places we stayed and the wonderful people we met most exciting - being driven through the streets of Delhi, it got the adrenaline pumping anyway! (more)Beki Williams

Memorable parts? It was all such a memorable trip! I guess the biggest pleasure I had this time was sharing my love of India with my 11 year old granddaughter. Jaipur was wonderful, as were the frescos in Nawalgarh and the amazing hotel in Surajgarh and I haven't mentioned Agra and Fatepur Sikri! Tips? Check the weather, it's cold overnight and early starts mean you need warm clothing as well as lighter cottons for the day time. My granddaughter had a problem with spicy food and... Memorable parts? There were many memorable experiences - our rickshaw ride through the Dehli markets was definitely a highlight....what a culture shock! The noise, smells, heat and totally manic traffic dodging around cows in the streets is imprinted on the memory. Seeing the rural life in Rajasthan was amazing - how the locals live in their mud houses, working on the land by hand, and how friendly the people were to us. Staying in a Maharaja's palace was an experience. Seeing the Taj... (more)Janine Jackson

Tailor made Rajasthan tour, India
From
£1,750

Memorable parts? History and culture. I enjoyed the amazing hotels we stayed in that were beautiful locations and historical. Tips? Due to distance between locations, ensure there are two nights at every hotel. There is significant time spent driving (in a car) between each location. If flying from Delhi during December / January be aware of fog delaying / cancelling flights. Local benefits? We visited local communities (e.g. Bishnoi, Samode) but not sure how it benefitted... Delhi to Goa overland tour

Memorable parts? Seeing was believing when it came to the Taj Mahal, not many places live up to be better than you anticipate as this place did. My wife and I have done some travelling, but this has to be the most impressive building we have ever witnessed. The Taj Mahal was almost worth the tour fee alone. Tips? Do not be put off by such a cheap price for the package, if we had paid treble we still would have been getting value for money! Don't be put off by such high attention from... (more)Jonathan Kenyon

Memorable parts? Varanasi was amazing and provided a great stay. Tips? Just go for it, you will love it, whether you are used to travelling or not, everyone on our trip enjoyed it and wanted more. Local benefits? On the trip we used local guides, driver etc which supported jobs in the various towns and cities. Using public transport ie the trains helped us get to various places easily and economically. Overall rating? Amazing, a must do for everyone. The guide was... (more)Joanne Rogers
Cycling holiday in the Maikal Hills, Central India
From

Memorable parts? My wife and I went on this trip with our 17 year-old son. Even as seasoned travellers to India, we would never have been able to do this trip on our own because this part of central India really doesn't have much tourist/traveller infrastructure. Cycling from village to village was absolutely fantastic. Our wonderful guide, Saurabh, based in Raipur, was not only brilliantly organised and wonderfully knowledgeable about wildlife, architure, people, plants, birds, customs etc.... (more)Jonathan Drori
Chhattisgarh to Orissa tour in India, tribes and villages
From
£1,700

Memorable parts? Every day we did something new and our hosts Saurabh and later, Sunny, always had a surprise in store! Though it's hard to choose one particular part (because the entire experience was amazing), the memories that will always stay with us - without needing to look at the photos - were the day-to-day interactions and chance meetings that we were fortunate to have with the local people. From watching people go about their daily business, to joining in their celebrations, we... (more)Heidi Fuller

Highlights have to be the Puri ceremony at the temple at Bhoramdeo (not for the feint hearted). The abundance of amazing home cooked, freshly prepared, organic food. The local market at Neur, which was beautifully vibrant and colourful. The train ride was a great experience...it was all fabulous! (more)Rosy Everitt

The highlight was when Peter Lemass organised a car and driver for my wife and me so that we could go round Ooty and Ketti to see where I used to live as a boy. Also the Rock carvings at Mahabaliporam. Also the stay with Thomas in the Kerala backwaters. (more)Roger Hamer

Visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar at night when it wasn't busy was the most memorable part. (more)Bela Gor
South India holiday, small group

Memorable parts? Probably the meenakshi temple visit. I also thought Kerala was beautiful. Tips? I would advise other travelers to research the areas being visited because I didn't think there were enough interesting activities offered. Local benefits? Not sure. Overall rating? 2 stars. Although our tour leader was nice enough, I found her rather disorganized and not particularly communicative regarding the areas we visited (unless we asked direct questions) or the... Golden Triangle 7 day tour in India
From
£999
including UK flights
Memorable parts? Visits to the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula (Baby Taj) in Agra and Jantar Mantar (astronomical observatory) in Jaipur. Tips? Make sure to see the Taj Mahal at dawn, rather than later in the day ... and make sure you have small-denomination Rupee notes (R500 and R1000 notes were "demonetized" (taken out of circulation) while we were there!). Local benefits? I hope so, although demonetization meant that we had to eat and shop in places that accepted credit/debit cards,... (more)Charles Robson

Memorable parts? Walking in the unspoilt countryside of Borromdeo and birdwatching at Satpura lake. Also visit to Sanchi Buddhist site. The elephant ride and seeing wild dogs from the howdah! Tips? For Borromdeo, perhaps visit one month earlier, ie in early Feb or before it gets hot in the middle of the day in late Feb/early March, so you have to get up very early in the morning! Local benefits? All of these. Overall rating? It was excellent in every way. Saurabh... (more)Anne Roberts

Memorable parts? I will never forget bicycling down some of the quite back country lanes of Rajasthan - children running across field of yellow mustard flowers to greet you as you bicycle past - pausing in a small village to meet the people weaving a beautiful rug on the huge loom - spotting a beautiful Kingfisher perched in a tree as you pause to admire. Tips? Enquire as to what you might bring along to benefit a local school or such that you might be visiting along the way! Local... (more)Mike Perry

Memorable parts? The Tiger safaris in Tadoba National Park/ Tiger Reserve Tips? To try and go in February and March when the tiger activity is good , vegetation not too high but it is at least a little cooler - c 28 degrees as opposed to 38degrees Local benefits? Yes . Memorable parts? Seeing a tiger really clearly when on elephant back. Tips? Check details of the lodges before booking. The road to Hideaway River lodge was destroyed 2 years ago by a flood so jeeps cannot access this lodge. It also destroyed the grasslands by the river. Now you have 1.5 km walk across boulders and have to cross the river by stepping stones and then a canoe. Travellers should be informed of this. Local benefits? The forest lodges were environmentally very... (more)Pauline Jones
