The opportunities that presented themselves for us to see real Theyyem in the northern villages with no other westerners for miles. Arriving in the Wayanad hills on the one day in the year that the coffee plants flower and to be enveloped by their amazing scent.

Brilliant. My husband and I both thought it one of the best holidays we'd been on. Superb destination. Fantastic people. Great culture. Stupendous wildlife. I think I've overdosed on superlatives. The most memorable part of the holiday was the first village stay on the hill tribe trek - we were the first group to stay in this village, and the kids were so excited to see us that I think we became a free babysitting service to the whole village for the entire night!

The temples in Angkor Wat / Siem Reap were incredible. The roads in Cambodia were pretty memorable as well [though for a completely different reason!]. (more)The most memorable parts were the variety of the cities and sites, the vibrant colours and sounds mixed with the dirt and poverty, the kindness of the people. The Taj Mahal was so beautiful and seeing tigers was memorable. (more)

The host families helped us learn some of their language, customs, farming practices, crafts, cooking, and generally how to enjoy life without electricity! We didn't see another white person the whole week - wonderful!! I cannot recommend it highly enough. (more)
To pick one would be impossible - but how about visiting and dancing with new friends from a Lobi village while listening to their incredible music (one of the "instruments" was a shovel) or following an elephant's footprints, then hearing him, particularly the sound of his ears flapping, before seeing him.
