Hiding out from the rain in a local families nice warm ger being given homemade yaks cheese and yak yoghurt vodka was the most memorable part. (more)

Mongolia travel information

At the centre of the country lies the wide Gobi Desert, bordered to north and south by steppes that are home to traditional nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples. The essential lifestyle of these herders of sheep, horses and camels has changed little since the times of Genghis Khan and Marco Polo, and travelling through their ancient and majestic land is an enlightening experience.

The country's rich flora combines European and Asian species such as anemone, delphinium, primula and several species of orchid, while animal life includes ibex, wild goats and sheep, wolves, elk and brown bear as well as the elusive snow leopard. Stunning mountain passes, high lakes and meadows, rivers and lush valleys provide spectacular scenery and ever-changing views of the ancient landscapes.
