Tanzania safari and cultural tour
Wow! where would we start? Muba - a great and knowledgeable guide with a tremendous sense of humour, Jackson a terrific cook and again a great sense of humour. Stumbling upon elephants whilst walking to the viewpoint at the Serengeti park gates. (more)
From US $1860 excluding flights
Rift valley camping safari, Tanzania
The holiday was simply amazing. Good company, amazing sights and terrific tour guides. (more)
From £1959 - £2439 including UK flights
Tanzania luxury camping safari
It was the most comfortable camping I have ever experienced. The tents were bigger than our bedroom, the food was incredible and the hot, private in-tent camp shower so refreshing. But we were truly out in the wild and could hear baboons near our camp and find elephant dung behind the tents. (more)
From £3099 including UK flights
Kilimanjaro climb and Tanzania holiday
Hiking to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro was a memorable (and, on summit day, very challenging) accomplishment. In the Serengeti we saw three male lions attempt to hunt a hartebeest, which was amazing. (more)
From £2749 excluding flights
Tanzania safari holiday
If you want adventure and excitement and an experience to remember forever then you will love it. (more)

Tanzania wildlife & beach holiday
Seeing animals in the wild, meeting other travellers, relaxing in amazing locations were the most memorable part...We enjoyed every part of it a lot!  (more)
From £2432 excluding flights
Selous Game Reserve safari, Tanzania
Having an elephant peer through the door of our banda was quite a surprise, but my favourite part was meeting lots of locals and learning bits of Swahili and tribal dialect...Tempted to give it five stars! Probably joint first with a long trip to Belize. (more)
From £2190 excluding flights
Selous safari & Zanzibar holiday
Brilliant - probably the best we've been on for organisation and experiences...Safari in Selous out of the mountain lodge and visit to Kisake school were highlights.  (more)
From £2439 - £3249 including UK flights
Luxury family safari in Tanzania
Every day had a new highlight - camping in the Serengeti and hearing lions prowling around the site in the early hours, being invited into an elderly woman’s house in the Usambara mountains, snorkelling in the Indian Ocean (more)
From £2432 excluding flights
Big game safari in Tanzania
Everywhere we looked there were birds: on the water's edge, in the air, perched in trees. Crocodiles slipped into the water and there were pods of hippos, plus giraffes, elephants, buffalo and impala.  (more)
From £2915 excluding flights
Private vehicle safari in Tanzania
Our children (13 and 15) got as much out of meeting the local people in towns and villages as they did from seeing the vast array of wildlife. Now they realise you really can make do on a minimum of possessions and things can be fixed (in very inventive ways), not thrown away when they break; a life changing experience for them.  (more)
From £1645 excluding flights
Rift Valley lodge safari in Tanzania
There were so many memorable moments it's hard to choose one. But seeing a leopard in a tree with its kill was right up there... Trip of a lifetime - fantastic. (more)
From £2649 - £3399 including UK flights
Kilimanjaro Climb, Serengeti safari and Zanzibar
Absolutely amazing - super balance of safari, mountain climbing and relaxing at the beach in one trip. Don't think it can be beaten!  (more)
From £3099 - £3869 including UK flights

Tanzania adventure holiday
The most memorable part of my holiday was spotting my own Leopard, thanks to our top notch driver/guide who taught us how to look for wildlife... This safari was wonderful and highly recommended. Definitely 5 stars. (more)
From £1475 - £1640 excluding flights
Great Wildebeest Migration safari in Kenya and Tanzania
The best way to see the Wild life in Eastern Africa and the best way to go on Safari. If trekking was possible through the Masai Mara this would have been the only better way to see these amazing animals. For obvious reasons trekking is not possible and going in a car is the second best option. (more)
From US $3287 - US $3577 excluding flights
Serengeti Trail, Kenya & Tanzania safari
Excellent... The wildlife drives were the most memorable part. (more)
From £585 excluding flights
Nairobi to Cape Town overland tour
Most memorable was definitely horse riding in and around Lake Malawi. It was soo much fun. Or maybe bush camping in the Serengeti. (more)
From £1090 excluding flights
Saadani Safari accommodation
Visiting the nearby village was a real eye-opener and an experience I could not have obtained any other way in a short holiday of three weeks in Tanzania. The Barbours were most welcoming and kind and I felt part of the family. (more)

Tanzania wildlife, people and beach holiday
It was our first visit to Africa. I can now understand why so many people have a love affair with Africa! It is impossible vast and breathtaking. The people were friendly and welcoming. It's a surprising land of contrasts.  (more)

Country facts for Tanzania holidays

Weather & the best time to go
The best time to go to Tanzania is May - October. January and February, while being two of the hottest months of year, are the best time to visit the Serengeti to see the migration of the Wildebeest.

Getting there & around
There are two major airports in Tanzania; Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam, and Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). There is a widely used bus service and Tanzanians drive on the left side of the road. A national rail service links the major towns, and there is also an international train from Tanzania to Zambia.

History
Tanzania (officially The United Republic of Tanzania) was formed in 1964 when Tanganyika and Zanibar united.

Main attractions
National Parks (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Selous, and more), Mount Kilimanjaro, Stone Age sites, scuba diving and amazing beaches.

Languages
Swahili (Kiswahili) and, to a lesser extent, English, Arabic and many local languages are spoken in Tanzania.

Money
The currency is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS).

Time zone
East Africa Time, GMT+3 (UTC+3). Be aware that Tanzanians consider the day to start at 6am (0 hour), so when telling time in Kiswahili 11am is often referred to as 5am (i.e. 11am minus 6 hours). To avoid any confusion, a Tanzanian will tell time in English if they want to use the western standard and in Kiswahili if they use the local standard.
