Tuscany holidays

Forget Chiantishire jibes – though not the Chianti produced from Tuscany’s soft vine-swathed hills. Florence’s artistic treasures are complemented by Siena’s Gothic splendour (and its almond biscuits!), San Gimignano’s startling medieval high rises, Renaissance Lucca – and a rather wonky tower in Pisa.... And don’t forget Elba – the rugged Tuscan island that once held Napoleon (briefly) captive but which now captivates hikers and bikers.

Pisa to Florence cycling holiday, Italy
Memorable parts? The whole trip was memorable... Tuscany is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. I think the most exciting part of the trip was when we were biking to Pisa and got our first glimpse of the leaning tower. It was so surreal! Tips? The Tuscany route offered is pretty challenging. When we booked this trip was described as light to moderate in difficulty however after finishing the tour and talking to the tour operator we were told it was one of the hardest... Walking holiday in Tuscany
Very good!....It was lovely to be looked after by the family at Braccicorti who housed and fed us wonderfully. Sara our guide took us to shops in the local area who sold local produce as well and we could buy some things like home grown sun dried tomatoes and red wine from the farm we were staying on. The only holiday I've even gone on that I would do again. (more)Mary Watkin
Most memorable was reaching the top of Monte Prado, the highest point in Tuscany and no other group in sight. The best kept secret, long may it continue. I plan to go back! (more)Marie Therese Filippi

The most memorable part of the holiday was seeing Michelangelo's David, he is amazing, no man could ever live up to that!! Ach no, the whole trip was fantastic, I enjoyed every minute. The food was absolutely beautiful. (more)Johanna kavanagh

Tuscany family activity holiday
Memorable parts? Simply the location! It was all that you imagine Tuscany to be - a converted farmhouse set in stunning countryside with a view of the surrounding Tuscan countryside that had to be seen to be believed and which afforded the sight of the most wonderful sunsets. That the accommodation was also superb and provided by the most dedicated and hard-working hosts ever made it the most complete location for a holiday in Tuscany. All the local food was pretty stunning too! Tips? 1.... (more)Rowland Cleverley

Tuscany horse riding holiday in Italy
Memorable parts? Definitely, the best aspect of this trip was the horse riding. The horses were healthy and well-behaved. Riding along side sky-high cypress trees, between rows of vineyards, and past ancient ruins and rural villas was quite an experience. The pace was comfortable - with plenty of lively canters! We stayed at the riding center in the owner's restored family home. My sister and I shared a room that overlooked the stables. We fell asleep to the gentle sound of nickers. Tips? This... Chianti castles horse riding holiday in Italy
Memorable parts? Beautiful countryside and a rustic, authentic venue. The horses were well trained and well cared for. Tips? It is good for singles as there are other people around and you are not on your own. There is limited time to do your own thing. Local benefits? The local village seems involved in the centre and employs locals. Overall rating? Great riding holiday, stress free in a beautiful setting. (more)Andrea Tubb

Yoga holiday in Tuscany, Italy
Memorable parts? My week at Lavacchio was absolutely heavenly. Jamie and Ailsa are wonderful hosts, and carefully consider every detail about their beautiful property for their guests, and at every turn you can see the way they lovingly tend to the place, from the lush lavender bushes fringing the poolside setting, through to the perfect positioning of the hilltop yoga shala. I loved their friendly hospitality, and the welcome made by their very personable cats and dog too! Everywhere was... (more)Annette Vieusseux

Farnese bed and breakfast in Viterbo, Italy
Memorable parts? Our accommodation Residenz Farnese; the Bed and Breakfast is delightful and sits in a rural village. This part of Italy is very pretty and quite historical. There are a number of pcturesque hilltop villages, a Natural Thermal Spring, the coast is twenty five minutes away and Rome is two hours by train or one and a half hours by car. Tips? A car is imperative. It is not possible to park close to Resindeza Farnese (the street is too narrow for car access). Maybe it... (more)christine walters

Cycling holiday in Umbria, Italy
Memorable parts? Cycling through some beautiful areas of Italy with a great, mixed group. Tips? Get some cycling practice in - most of the riding is on quiet roads, so worth getting used to traffic. Local benefits? Not sure it particularly benefited local people, although meals were often in local restaurants. Overall rating? Absolutely fantastic and memorable. (more)Michelle Bickle

The best part was undoubtedly the food. Practically everything on your plate comes from the estate, whether it be pork from their rare breed pigs or wild boar, vegetables from the garden or olive oil from the olive groves. (more)Molly Slaughter

The accommodation is the perfect getaway with easy access [by car] to deserted beaches, Pisa and the relatively less crowded Lucca. The kids loved the freedom and security of the land around the house. We weren't bored for one minute and came home restored and ready to start the grind again. (more)Paul Handley

Memorable parts? The setting, the tranquillity and the people. Tips? You will need a car. Tuscany holiday apartments review

"We enjoyed in June a lovely week in the relaxing beautiful setting of the Odina Agriturismo apartments situated on lawns with an absolutely super pool surrounded by Gloria's magical herb garden. It was situated way above the valley of the Arno looking across to Chianti country; and all far removed from the motorway and railway far down below in that valley.

At night was the view over sparkling lights, the dark quiet of the night punctured by hoots and calls of birds and animals round you. The accommodation is of very good quality in such a rustic setting, the architecture in keeping. Our 1 bedroom apartment was well equipped for self catering with attractive spiral staircase to the bedroom and shower room above. But apart from breakfasting sitting out in our private bit of lawn, we preferred to eat out at night in the varied restaurants of the many little villages.

One day we walked for hours on marked paths from the doorstep into the next smaller valley where little hamlets were discovered including a surprising jewel – a restored packed restaurant at Rocco Ricciarda. It was a saint’s day and it was full of excited ramblers, but the friendly and helpful staff there still found time to serves us an espresso and snack.

We also enjoyed in our week visiting some famous towns - the 700 year old San Gemigniano with its 12 skyscraping towers can be visited in a day, as can Florence. Mostly we visited by car the many small villages around us and along the historic Via setti Ponti or 7 bridges, entering ancient churches, seeing soaring old bridges over ravines and oh so wooded! More walks can be done from in the many side valleys way up to 5,000 feet after cheating by driving a car most of the way up!"
