Mongolia adventure trekking holiday & Naadam Festival
Memorable parts? The ENTIRE trip was outstanding and amazing... the expertise of the guide, the enthusiasm for the country, the love of the country was thrilling. The NAADAM festival (which was what enticed me to going on this trip was even MORE than I had imagined Tips? Let Jess (the tour operator) guide you as to what you are most interested in seeing/experiencing. She is just so knowledge I had her plan a trip for my grandson and myself that I felt would be a great introduction... (more)Eve Solomon

National Parks holidays in America
Memorable parts? There were so many highlights! Perhaps the most memorable was the sunset in Monument Valley, the light made the rock glow. The tour leader was also excellent - knowledgeable, enthusiastic, but reactive to the views and wishes of the travellers, anticipating our preferences. Tips? Be prepared for extremes of temperature - cool and cloudy in San Francisco, extremely hot and dry in Vegas. Local benefits? Clearly using local accommodation, often not owned by... (more)Ian Roberts

Alaska and Yukon classic camping tour
Memorable parts? We travelled a great distance, saw tons of great scenery and was able to do a variety of activities so I can't really say that one thing stands out however Dawson City (both times) was great. Tips? Bring a bug hat/jacket and some good bug spray. Bring a variety of warm clothes (e.g. mitts, wool hat...) even in the summer months - you never know what the temperature will be like. It really is an active tour and to be ready for this. You do no have to be an athlete... (more)Mary Ellen Ruddell

Finland activity holiday and Northern Lights
Memorable parts? The husky safari and the general scenery. Tips? The optional activities day - some of the activities incur a further charge (if you wanted to do snowmobile riding or further husky sledge rides. Some other activities are included in the price of the week (snow shoeing/ cross country skiing etc). This fact was not clear on the itinerary. Iceland adventure holiday, Lake Myvatn in Spring
Memorable parts? The guide, Ingimundur, had a wonderful passion for his country and delighted in showing us parts of this astonishing landscape which I doubt would be discovered by most independent travellers. Tips? Each season in Iceland brings a different set of wonders. A one-off holiday, such as this one (which was run, unusually, at the end of winter) gives an opportunity to see an astonishing country at a time when it is more-or-less free of tourists. coping with the spectacularly... Costa Rica tailor made holiday, highlights
Memorable parts? The stay at Cerro Escondido. It was not touristy, the hike there was great, and the managers were very welcoming. A beautiful, peaceful spot, off the beaten track. Tips? If you go to Tortuguero, go for as good a lodge as you can afford. We felt our guide was not as good as the one from the other lodge. Don't just stick to the well known bits, get off the beaten track a bit to experience the real Costa Rica. Local benefits? Yes! Most guides were local,... (more)Yvonne Chapman

Backpacking in the Canadian Rockies
Memorable parts? The most memorable part of our holiday were the views that we experienced. They were breath taking. Sitting on top of Tangle Peak after having just climbed up it was amazing. Robert was a very good guide on this trail and told us a lot about the history of the land with the First Nations. The other trails that we went on were guided by Troy who was the most amazing person. He knew so much and was very encouraging as this was our first hiking holiday. He set a good pace and... Canadian Rockies & wilderness walking holiday
Memorable parts? Hiking the Iceline trail in Yoho National Park. Seeing grizzly and black bears by the roadside. Tips? The pace of this holiday is a bit frenetic and there was very little 'down time'. Days started early and every minute was taken up with hiking, cooking for the group (of 16 in our case) and washing up, putting up or taking down tents and travelling between destinations, but, despite the hard work, it was one of the best holidays I've ever had. Truly fabulous group... (more)Christabel Owens

Wild Taiga activity holiday in Finland
Memorable parts? There were so many memorable parts: seeing a bear (and being able to hear it snuffling) only metres from our hide; canoeing down rapids; paddling across peaceful lakes and not seeing another soul all day; the beautiful scenery; picking a glut of wild berries; making coffee over the campfire and discovering yummy Finnish foods. Choosing a holiday operated by local people meant you really got to know Finland. My guide Urpo was always checking that I was okay and showing me... (more)Joanne Offer

Gobi Desert expedition
Memorable parts? That's a hard decision to make. The Gobi desert in Mongolia awesome. I took around 4000 pictures and movies that we'll put on our website along with a travel log. We really liked the sand dunes and camels. I got some great pictures of horses, camels, people and the environment. It was awesome staying in Ger camps. Our driver, Ot, was awsome. Tips? Be flexible. Know that your guide and driver are very experienced. It's typical for a car to break down but the driver's... (more)Charlotte Lundemo

Heaphy Track hiking trip in New Zealand
The most memorable part of the track was coming down from the tussock highlands along the Heaphy River, emerging out of the forest and seeing the beaches of The Tasman Sea. (more)Allan Justus
A great experience particularly with the tour operator passing on so much information about the geography, flora, fauna and history. (more)Peter Ladd
Seeing the rare Blue Duck close up in it's natural environment was very special. I also loved being in the company of people from around the World who were passionate about the environment. (more)Wendy Grace

Torres del Paine tour
Memorable parts? So many. Our great group & superb guides. First site of the mountains from Lake Pehoe & climbing to the Torres. Tips? Make sure you're in good shape for long & sometimes challenging hikes. Local benefits? Not sure of benefit to locals other than some employment. Tour was very good on minimizing environmental impacts including reminders from guides. Overall rating? All my expectations were met. Great accommodations, food, guides, activities, etc. I... Chomolhari trekking holiday, Bhutan
Memorable parts? Lots. The friendly people who seemed enjoyed to have their photo's taken. The scenery, the hundreds of prayer flags. As we trekked at high altitude, the many people we met driving horses, cows & yaks. But the best experience was caused by a mistake. On one night of the trek we lost our horses & luggage! Our clean socks & toothbrush went one way & we went another. Our guide rescued the situation by arranging us to stay in a yak-herders hut. The family very kindly took... (more)Alan Reimer

Whitewater rafting in Nepal
Tips? Be prepared to get sick. Local benefits? Yes. Overall rating? Very good. (more)Aaron Daubenspeck
From US $22 - US $42 excluding flights
Alaska adventure cruise
Memorable parts? It has to be the Un-Cruise Adventure (though the road trip was pretty good as well). Tips? As they recommend, take plenty of layers and wet weather clothing (activities take place regardless of weather so you need the right stuff for hiking & kayaking, as well as watching the scenery and wildlife from the boat. Don't worry about "evening clothes" - most people only changed in the evenings if their day clothes got wet, and then jeans are fine. Local benefits? Having... (more)Lavinia Martins

Antarctica and New Zealand Subantarctic Islands Wildlife Cruise
Memorable parts? The sub antarctic islands, wildlife and the icebergs. Tips? Prepare for a big sea voyage and lots of time to spare. Local benefits? There are no people, but the environment is excellent and getting better as recovery from last 2 centuries of exploitation has taken place. Nz and Aust governments should be congratulated on the feral pest controls. Overall rating? Up there with the big ones. (more)Robert Mock
