| On a totally private spit of land overlooking the ocean, separated from the rest of the world by a salt water creek, stands this accommodation. Four simple but charming houses located on a beach where the only other footprints to be seen are those of fishermen and turtles. This must be one of the most idyllic locations to be found. Access is via a private, bamboo footbridge across the creek that separates the beach from the rest of the world. There can be no more a beautiful location. All the 4 houses sit directly on the beach facing the sea. They are built in a traditional style with thick cool walls, shuttered windows, cool natural flooring, and lofty terracotta tiled sloping roof. The furniture is an eclectic mix of traditional and rustic. They all have a delightful open sitting areas to watch the sea by day and the stars by night. The houses are available for rent for a minimum period of one week. However, we may be flexible depending on our booking situation. We run like a little hotel. We have housekeeping and a dining shack area where you order food from a menu and pay for what you order at the end of your stay. The cost of a meal per person is approximately £3 depending on what your order. Each bedroom has a large double bed (not twin beds). No more than two adults will be accommodated in each bedroom. A child below 10 years old can stay in some of the bedrooms provided the child shares the bed with the parents. Also, in some bedrooms we can provide a camp bed at an additional cost of 40 percent of the room cost. | |
| Staff & facilities include: We can provide a car and driver (at an extra charge) so that you have the freedom to visit a different beach and in the evenings sample the many restaurants around Goa. We have a book in each house and tent which will provide you with useful information about the interesting things that you could do in Goa. The Captain's house: This house was built by Dr. Francisco Joseph Sequeira, a gynaecologist by profession, the son of Anjelo Zeferino Sequeira who bought the land in 1886. It was then inherited by Capt. Cyril William Sequeira, one of the pioneers of aviation in India. He often flew over the house in a Tiger Moth and waved to the awestruck locals below. Some of the older generation still remember this. This house can be rented out as a 3 bedroom house only. One extra child below 10 years old will be permitted per bedroom, provided the child shares the bed with the parents. Baby cribs can be provided at an additional cost. Also, in one of the bedrooms, we can provide a camp bed at an additional cost. The Bakery: This house was built by Padre Luis Gonzaga de Santana Sequeira, and was used as a bakery by him till the late 50s. This is the only house that has 2 separate bedrooms. If you want you can rent only 1 bedroom. There is no living room or other common rooms. Each bedroom opens onto a balcony and has its own separate entrance. The rooms are on opposite sides of the house so there is no interference. Each bedroom is self contained with it's own in-suite bathroom. Each room sleeps two in a double bed, and we can provide a camp bed at additional cost. The Priest's house: This house was built by Padre Luis Gonzaga de Santana Sequeira, who lived here until the late 1950s. Father Sequeira had his own canoe, which he used to cross the creek and say mass in the Mandrem Church. This house can be rented out as a 3 bedroom house only. The house consists of just 3 bedrooms, each opening onto a balcony. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. Two of the bathrooms are open to the sky. We have consciously made an effort to employ only local members of the community. All our staff are locals. They are from the surrounding villages and are trained by us. All provisions are bought from the local residents. The cars and drivers we use are also from the surrounding villages.
This property is unique and host to marine turtles, otters which breed in the bank of the creek, monitor lizards, tortoises, wild hair, and a resident pair of the rare and magnificent White Bellied Sea Eagle with a seven foot wingspan. Yet, we are just 20 minutes drive from the heart of Goa The very purpose of our existence is to keep this piece of land the way God made it. We will protect it from mass tourism and encourage like-minded people to visit. We are committed to educating the local community about things of historical significance which will only appreciate with the passing of time. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
