Basecamp Oulanka is a complete Destination management company.We value the Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy. We are a local partner of Pan Parks. In addition to offering accomodation and restaurant services, we organize many adventures. First hand we are a wilderness well-being center.
We value four basic elements in our work; 1) Nature in the Oulanka National Park, 2) Wilderness well-being (that includes activities, fine dining and for example a smoke sauna), 3) Art (in photographs and live music), 4) Tradition (that has been strong in tourism especially in the region of Juuma for over 100 years.) All our guides are from this area. Our guides are working 12 months a year as permanent workers.
Our guides get education before every season: education in activities but also in social skills. Our wages are a minimum 10 % higher than standard local wages. Our guides are provided with the best possible (and very expensive) equipment. Our activities are safe although they are extreme. Our activities are planned and implemented in a way that are good for the guides

We do not provide activities that disturb nature or create pollution. At our camp there is no light or noise pollution.
We have our own waste water cleaning system,that is built for 100 natives – big enough to operate in every situation. Our water consumption is taken up in every briefing, especially hot water. We have no radios, tv sets, magazines, newspapers, minibars, laptops. We minimize tranfers with minibuses.
All our customers get equipment from us in the winter conditions. This is a huge investments BUT it is truely sustainable. Our customers stay only one week in cold, arctic conditions, so there is no point buying expensive clothing orother materials for just a week. We know what is needed and we know good quality.

We have strong co operations with our local partners. We provide education to them when taking care of international customers and how to build their own products. We take care of the safety plans of our subcontractors. We are operating very closely with Oulanka National Park. We raise funds to ONP every year to the sum of several thousand euros. Our customers raise funds to PAN Parks- again which totals several thousand euros every year.
