Adventure Base are a team of passionate mountain enthusiasts who love where we live, and the unique opportunity we have to enjoy the sports we love in the stunning natural mountain environment around us.
Preserving that natural environment in its pristine state is our priority!
Chamonix is a beautiful and dramatic mountain environment, with a diverse and
delicately balanced network of flora, fauna, and high mountain glacier systems,
surrounding Europe’s highest peak – Mont Blanc. The mountains and their wildlife
exist in a complex equilibrium, and we believe passionately that we must all play a
part in keeping the environment around us in its balanced natural state.
Global warming, glacial retreat, pollution, and litter are all scarring the beautiful
mountains around us. Ask anyone who has grown up in Chamonix and they will tell
you that over the last 20 years the glaciers have retreated significantly, even to the
naked eye, and have changed colour due to traffic pollution. At Adventure Base, we
believe passionately that it is our responsibility to help stall – if not reverse! – this
process.
Economic responsibility
Adventure Base believe that we have an economic responsibility to the community in
which we live, not just through financial contributions in taxes to the local authority –
whose ‘green’ campaign is admirable! - but also through supporting local small
businesses.
As a company, we don’t automatically opt for the cheapest supplier – it’s
the closest, smallest, or friendliest who usually wins our business! We are committed
to supporting local campaigns, and are active members in the Chamonix Business
Forum – dedicated to Chamonix’s environmental development as a whole.
Together as a network of holiday companies and suppliers we can achieve a whole lot more
than just one small business, to protect our fragile environment and continue to
promote our beautiful town in a sustainable and environmentally sympathetic way.
Environmental responsibility
As a company, we recycle, reuse, and actively promote the environmentally friendly
option in terms of transport and travel around the valley. We support the Chamonix
tourist office’s campaign for an ‘eco-friendly’ town. We run shared minibuses, use
natural cleaning products (vinegar, baking soda etc), and run an almost entirely
paper free office.
Adventure Base are passionate about sharing our amazing mountain world with as
many people as possible, in an environmentally sustainable manner. We are a small
team, offering a 100% personal service, and are dedicated to sharing our passion for
the sports and environment around us.
At every step of our company development, we consider not only the economic viability, but also the
environmental viability – we want to keep our mountains the way they are for the
rest of our company’s life, but also for our children and grandchildren to enjoy as we
have.
At Adventure Base we believe that
controlled enjoyment of our favourite pastimes needn’t leave a permanent scar on
our environment. Walkers and bikers can enjoy breathing pure mountain air,
travelling in a non polluting way, and sticking to the existing paths.
Skiers and snowboarders can make the most of the maintained pistes, or explore under their
own steam into untouched terrain with no lift access - leaving no mark on the
mountains except their first tracks down untouched snow faces.
Mountain biking and
road biking provide good clean air for hard working lungs, as well as a ‘clean’ mode
of transport to explore the area around us. Runners, skiers, triathletes, climbers,
mountaineers, parapenters and more – all share our beautiful mountain world,
travelling by non-polluting means, taking home so much in terms of experience,
passion, adrenalin and amazing memories … and leaving nothing behind!
Social responsibility
Adventure Base are committed to maintaining a social responsibility to the
community in which we live. Chamonix is a diverse and multicultural ‘melting pot’ of
nationalities – all drawn to the mountain Mecca that is the Mont Blanc range.
Adventure Base is fully integrated into the French society we live in. Our team of
staff are all fluent French speakers, we have both a French and an English company,
and we work closely with a network of trusted local suppliers.
We are proud to be part of an exciting and developing community that is growing and changing
constantly, but we also recognise the importance of maintaining and supporting the
local heritage and history of where we choose to live and run our business.
