Aims
  • Promoting nature conservation and environment protection activities by funding a number of conservation projects through the Akwantupa Travel Foundation.

  • Saving resources by planning tours and selecting holiday package components that minimize environmental, economic and social impacts.

  • Raising awareness among travellers and/ or hosts by guaranteeing privacy, health and safety standards, and providing customers with information on responsible behaviour and sustainability issues at their destinations.

  • Supporting cultural and social projects through voluntourism.

  • Offering and using organic and regional products and produce such as using local transport and accommodation facilities, tour guards, and local foods.

  • Contributing to the economic success /growth of a region by supporting Community Based Ecotourism Projects (CBEP).
Economic responsibility
  • We employ local people as tour guides.

  • We encourage local participation in tourism by assisting them to establish small scale tourism businesses and to provide tourists/visitors with traditional homestays which generate income for the local people.

  • We collaborate with institutions to build the capacity of farmers at Paga Buru-Kazigo community who are into maize, rice, millet, sorghum, beans, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, pepper and spinach farming to improve soil fertility and embark on organic farming in other to increase their production.

  • Our reforestation project is to build the capacity of the rural community for green jobs and to alleviate poverty.

  • We are also collaborating with institutions to develop a natural lake into an eco tourist site to protect the crocodiles in the lake and to create jobs for the community.
Environmental responsibility
  • As part of our corporate social responsibility we are engaged in reforestation of over one thousand acres of degraded land at Paga Buru-Kazigo in partnership with the traditional authority and the local community. We are starting with two hundred acres of the degraded land. The objective of the reforestation project is to help in mitigation and adaptation to climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

  • We are developing a natural lake called Lake Dumpolo which inhabits crocodiles at Paga Buru-Kazigo community as an eco tourist attraction.

  • We are developing an ecotourism management plan for the Akim Juaso Forest community whose land lies in the foothills of the Atewa mountain range and Atewa Range Upland Evergreen Rain Forest to preserve the rich natural heritage using Community Based Ecotourism (CBE) as a tool for conservation.

  • We undertake carbon offset projects where farmers are educated and encouraged to plant more mangrove seedlings which help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere. We ensure that your carbon footprints are reduced.

  • We educated communities most especially farmers to desist from bad farming practices which destroy the flora and fauna in our eco system.

  • We encourage the building and using of eco-friendly lodges.

  • We are going through the process of Environmental Management System (EMS) with Ghana Standard Board towards achieving ISO 14000 for certification of our operations.
Social responsibility
  • We encourage community-based eco-tourism which enable communities benefit from tourists visit. Some of the income generated from the visits are used for running their own community tourism business which enable them gain access to certain basic services including infrastructure.
