How the minimum criteria of the responsible travel standard was met...

Economic responsibility

  • We employ local guides and work with local freelancers only. They are all from Russia and know the area really well, this ensures the money generated from tourism remains inside the community.
  • We offer visits to local communities, offer a wide variety of cultural experiences and promote pride in the indigenous culture. This showcases and rejuvenates the tradition of local communities.
  • Our organisation has many partners, one of which is Vodohod, the cruise company. Together with Vodohod, we organize different charity cruises across the rivers of the Volga and the Neva. For example, from the Samara-Kazan-Samara cruise, 30% of tour price was donated to Rusfund, a charity that helps seriously ill children in Russia.

Environmental responsibility

  • In the accommodation provided for guests, we always operate green laundry practices where possible. We actively encourage guests to re-use their towels if they are staying for a few days.
  • We advise customers of local walking routes and cycle paths and public transport options, where suitable. Most staff members live locally and are encouraged to walk when possible.
  • We run special environment tours to Russia, which include visiting the seven protected areas. Three of which are nature reserves and four of which are National Parks. All these areas are located relatively close to Moscow and form a symbolic green ring around the capital of our country. Our knowledgeable guides will educate visitors of the special features of these areas. These include remnant old-growth spruce, pine and oak forests, rare plants, animals and birds, beautiful landscapes and a bison nursery. These tours have been developed by employees of nature reserves and national parks in cooperation with the Centre for Ecological Travel .
  • We encourage guests to immerse themselves in rural Russia and engage with local wildlife conservation. We visit a wonderful place to the west, Tver Oblast, a land of untouched nature. Here, spend time enjoying the open air and visit the Biological Station. Together with the staff from the centre, they raise abandoned bear cubs and release them into the wild as adults.

Social responsibility

  • We aim to play a positive role in the communities where we operate and carefully manage the impact of our business socially and environmentally.
  • Providing a responsible trip to Russia is a vital part of our strategy. We are committed to the issues of diversity and creating a positive travel environment for our clients. As a part of any trip discussion, we always update every traveller on the current social and political situation in Russia and minimise the risks or any potential damages.
  • Our company and its employees take part in a multitude of fundraising activities supporting charities and other organisations. Together with other charity organisations we support local charities in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia, the United Kingdom and Finland.
