Our holidays are focused on having a great time whilst minimizing our environmental impact. There are so many natural wonders and architectural to see and enjoy.
Economic responsibility
We buy local produce and organic produce when available. We visit lots of small villages as we travel and restock on route, using markets wherever possible, benefiting the local economy. We prefer small shops to large chains. Trying local goods is part of the experience on our holidays.
We use local suppliers for goods required on route.
We use local shops for buying spare parts on route and for maintenance on route.
We are a season related business however we do not lay off staff in the winter time.
All our employees have, company-payed, third party and medical insurance.
We encourage to develop; Staff is educated by specialist in the filed of interest.
Environmental responsibility
We travel by wind power! Therefore we can still travel and see our fantastic world without emitting harmful emissions. We have an engine for backup and for entering and leaving marinas or shelter-bays.
We supporting and hosting local underwater and beach clean-ups. We host the divers with on our boats, give them food and drinks and we organize the pick-up of the garbage, its a private iniative of several divingschools / frinds of us.
We are now trying to talk to the city councel (via a political party) make a law to collect money from every company who is earning money from the sea, so that everyone is also contrebuting clean ups and make owners aware of their resonsibility towards our mutual future.
Our guests are encouraged not to collect any corals or shells from the sea or beach. They are encouraged though to help us clean any garbage that they see in the water or on the beach.
We have re - usable bags and crates to carry goods to the yacht.
We recycle all the waste that we can (depending on the facilities available).
We use washable plates and cups and glasses for serving drinks and food.
We ask all our customers to minimize water use. We have showers in the cabins, water is heated only after use of the engine this also encourages customers to have a quick rinse after a swim rather than a full shower.
We don’t have an electricity at sea so we need to conserve energy while at sea
The boat with A/C is only used on very hot days and if guests would suffer from the heat.
Encouraging interest
We believe that if everyone took small steps to minimize their own impact on the environment, the world would be a better place. The best way for this to happen is for everyone to care and so we encourage interest in the environment and ways to protect it.
We often see dolphins on our trips and this is a great way to encourage interest in our environment and the fragileness of the sea! We tell the people to enjoy this gift of nature by watching, its forbidden/we don not allow our guests to go swim with them, (no interfering natural behavoir) and disencourage to swim with dolphins kept in a basin to swim around with tourists - which nowadays more and more is developed in tourist centres.
Our holidays encourage people to participate snorkeling and hence encourage interest in our (under) water environment.
We do not visit turtle-beach in the season when the turtles laying their eggs.
We dont not promote riding camels or donkeys on the beach
Minimizing paper usage
We do not have any printed glossy brochure to minimize paper usage. We have a pdf that can be emailed to potential clients. Our only printed literature is an flyer and a business card -both printed on paper from sustainable forests.
We do all our customer and business correspondence by email (unless the recipient does not have email access in which case we use recycled paper).
Social responsibility
We visit small villages as we travel and restock on route, using markets wherever possible, benefiting the local economy. We prefer small shops. Trying local goods is part of the experience with Flaka Cruising.
We support other sail operators to do likewise. We support a underwater and beach clean ups in Turkey.
We provide cultural/social guidance for guests: We have (language) books on board to encourage our guests to speak the language when on land. We do trips to land to visit local markets especially to give our guests the opportunity to support them. When guests who extend their holiday on land are advised not to go to a All Inclusive Hotel but encouraged to book local small hotel and buy locally.
