1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The most exciting parts of our holidays were the day spent at the Asian Elephant sanctuary close to Chachanaburi and witnessing two 1 year old sea turtles being released in Ko Talu.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

In April Thailand is really hot, but it's also great as there is Thai new year which is a very interesting cultural experience.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Homestaying felt like direct help to the Thai woman who welcomed us and a great way to get to know authentic thai ways of life when she took us around her neighbour to explore it and on an outing with her friend. As for environmental impact, unfortunately Thailand is very very polluted, Bangkok is appalling and we were negatively impressed by the consume of little plastic bottles for water, at a rate that would be unthinkable back home. As for supporting conservation, yes, see answer to the first question.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Unforgettable holiday!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Many memorable moments: from the home stay at Bangkok, to the food experiences, from the island hopping to the emerald pool. Maybe the best part was the people part: guides, drivers, locals were all very super helpful and kind. Everyone did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and safe.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Follow the guides' suggestions, relax and have fun.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Our vacation greatly benefited local people. We bought from local entrepreneurs, ate with local families and tried to purchase local crafts and services. The guides also taught us of local customs and involved us in local rituals and activities. We felt a genuine connection to the real local world.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Far beyond my expectations. Outstanding.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

There were so many memorable and exciting moments but the highlights were definitely: boat trip in Bangkok first morning, Auntie Ad's delicious lunch and beautiful organic house and garden, elephant sanctuary (voted best day by all!), New Years Eve party at our resort in Kanchanaburi, monkeys and gibbons in Khao Yai National Park, driving out at sunset in the back of an open truck to see the bats, meeting the local kids and martial arts teacher, total relaxation on Koh Samed. The list could go on as we did so much.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

We were in a large group (16) and it went really well with that number of people. Everything was taken care of and prearranged by Tell Tale travel and there was so much going on that everyone was engaged and involved from 7 years old to 77! A really great trip for a family with mixed ages and stages. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this holiday.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

All our guides were local and they were all fantastic especially Tong, Jay and Fang. Tommy was our main driver and he was exceptional in his care of us and his reliability. He had great local road knowledge and local knowledge. We were so sad to leave him at the end! We really had a sense that all our accommodation was owned by locals too and of course our days at the elephant sanctuary and martial arts school felt like money well spent. We tried to eat at local markets and support local stalls rather than the larger shopping malls (that part of the itinerary could be taken out - Bangkok Siam Centre!)

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We all thoroughly enjoyed every part of the experience and loved the intensity and variety of the well organised and full itinerary. Thank you so much to the operator. We will be back to you for our next family reunion!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The palaces and temples of Bangkok, closely followed by the jungle walk!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

We were told there were sea urchins only by the rocks, but on the last day at Mooban Talay they were plentiful in the shallow waters in the middle of the main central beach area. 12 or more later, I wish I had been properly informed. Remind people to bring their binoculars for the jungle walk!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Only local people seemed to be employed and receive our tips and all seemed pleasant and friendly and could not have been more helpful, so hopefully.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Best yet for all of us.

Hi Barbara. Thank you for leaving feedback on responsibletravel.com (and the phone call the other day). We're glad that you said it was the best holiday you and your teenage children had ever had and look forward to you travelling with us again! General note: the Chadbanks took a custom itinerary in the summer months, rather than the one on this page.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Many aspects were memorable. Everyday was filled with activity and something new to look forward to. Most memorable was meeting and getting to know the local people and seeing real life in Thailand, e.g rubber tapping, Krabi night market. Most exciting was the kayaking, white water rafting and exploring the islands.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

The cycling day in Bangkok is not suitable for young children. It is ok for adults and perhaps children over 14 or so. A lot of it is on busy roads and just under couple of hours on the car-free island. Take mosquito repellent!!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes. We were taken on excursions and trips by locals or small local companies as opposed to using the agents in the tourist cities. After being exposed to the tourist areas we realised that we were really sufficiently off the beaten track to be away from the crowds and yet still able to have access to it all if we wanted.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fun, educational, relaxing...not just a holiday but an experience of a lifetime.

Thank you for the review, Afsha, as well as the lovely comments you gave us directly! In regards to the cycling, following this feedback, we are now only running the cycling as a private day (previously we ran it as a mixture of private or join in depending on the family). This way we know our customers get the best experience and that the route and the pace is set just for your family. The day is suitable for younger children (6 or above as the rest of the trip). However, the cycling day is optional and can be swapped for other activities.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The lovely hotel in Bangkok, the white water rafting, kayaking, snorkeling, staying on Ko Yao Noi, great food and supper at Eh's house, the hot springs and emerald pool, the bungalows in Krabi.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Take time in each place and not be in a hurry to move on. Learn customs and greetings etc. beforehand. Have the full addresses of the places where you are staying in advance as we did not really know exactly where we were staying beforehand. Take plenty of mosquito repellent and long sleeved clothes for evenings, also Immodium was useful although available in local pharmacy.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

As the bungalows where we stayed were run by locals and the guides were local we provided income. We hope Eh's family were paid well for the meal we had.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A brilliant adventure with a wide variety of faces of Thailand: city, national park, rainforest, mangroves, islands, beaches, all very smooth connections and lovely local guides who became our friends. We were made to feel so welcome by all who we met.
