Biddy Walcot review 13 Aug 2011
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Hmmm, so many good bits. Seeing such diverse parts of the country with such different landscapes - all within 140 miles; having the route to ourselves most of the time; meeting the challenge of a three-day cycle with quite a lot of big hills; meeting lovely people; great B&Bs etc. I will definitely remember the torrential rain...
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
If you have the time, consider taking an extra day. We underestimated how long it would take to complete each day's ride and would have enjoyed taking more time (interesting diversions, longer lunches etc). We cycled on everything from clinker to grouse moor so our speed was much slower than it would have been on tarmac. Also, even in August, it can get cold. I was very glad of my long leggings and long-sleeved layers (and waterproof).
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Local B&Bs, cafes, pubs etc and cycling was pretty carbon-neutral.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Excellent. Already planning the next one.
