1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Just sitting on the balcony in the sunshine with a coffee and a book and looking across the Coral Sea...and waking up to the sounds of the forest...and seeing several cassowary... and eating in the beautiful restaurant.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Beware of the walk up through the forest to the accommodation - it is steep and narrow, and you need to be reasonably fit to do it in less than ten minutes.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Apart from us using local shops and presumably the accommodation using local services, no particular evidence of benefit on local people. It benefited the local environment by having a very light touch on the forest in which it sits, and by allowing visitors to appreciate the forest at close hand. Apparently, when the owner bought the land and the beach he saved the site from more conventional and destructive development, which is a great benefit.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
An extremely relaxing stay in a beautiful environment.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The most memorable part of my holiday was a day trip snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef - so beautiful and so addictive - I just wanted to keep searching for different corals and fish.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
This accommodation in mission beach (Queensland) is a gorgeous place to stay. So relaxing, a beautiful setting in bush, a gorgeous walk through the bush to a beautiful beach, and the massive 2 metre tall cassowary birds are so strange to see close up in their natural environment. Definitely book a week at this accommodation.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Yes, it benefited local people. And it definitely minimized impacts on the environment - the native cassowary birds didn't seem to be affected at all - they just searched for berries in the rainforest right outside the accommodation. The accommodation was nestled into the rainforest with very little impact and a very small footprint.

We loved every minute of our stay! Our rainforest cabin was truly beautiful with polished wood floors, a comfy bed and best of all a stunning view onto some near pristine rainforest. The welcoming owners have poured their hearts and souls into this place and it shows - the organic food is glorious and the eco-friendly buildings are inspirational - and all at an extremely affordable price. This is ecotourism at its best.

We travelled to Mission beach to take in the rainforest and its surroundings. We stayed at the retreat which is beautiful if somewhat remote location set high up in the rainforest. The resort has its own beach and excellent restaurant. The food, mostly organic and is locally sourced and is very good value.
Our accommodation was a rainforest hut - basically a small elevated room with a canvass roof and four mesh screens in place of walls - placing you at the heart of all the sights and sounds of the rainforest! Paul and the team at Mission beach are very conscious of protecting the environment and organise excellent night walks to view the wildlife.
One word of caution though if you have a phobia of spiders (which I have) this may not be the ideal place for you as they can be found frequently! Although I never really was too bothered! If peace and tranquillity are your thing then this is the place to be.

The accommodation was an amazing experience; the setting is paradise but the friendly staff and the fabulous food made it the perfect place to chill out at the start of my trip. As a solo traveller, the atmosphere couldn't have been more friendly and inviting. I can't wait to go back and am recommending to all my friends.
