Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same trip can have different views!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The beautiful hikes that the hosts guided us on.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

It is a bit easier to get around if you have rented your own car, but the hosts are very generous about providing lifts when necessary.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The hosts are great at recycling and operate a well run organic farm.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

The holiday was exceptional. The hosts are incredibly generous and knowledgeable about the local area. The farm has a very relaxing, and tranquil atmosphere. The farm itself is in a stunning location in the mountains with a view for many kms into the valley. We would definitely recommend this place to others and hope to return!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Opening the bedroom window on our first morning and seeing mist hanging in the valley below us and clear blue skies above. Magical. The mountains were impressive particularly the imposing Pania Secca and Pania del Croce. The accommodation was good, a lovely swimming pool, helpful hosts and great weather.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Don't expect to get out of Pisa Airport quickly and don't use Hertz Renta car! We queued for 3 hours with no apology or explanation. Once we arrived at this accommodation, it was very relaxing. We would recommend not trying to see or do too much as the driving is tiring; long windy and steep roads climbing high into the mountains - great for the views but don't overdo it. We did too much exploring and wished we'd relaxed more at the farmhouse and simply enjoyed the swimming pool and the views. Access to the accommodation is not easy particularly if you have young children or have mobility problems. From the main road it's a 4 km drive up a long windy and steep road to the top where you leave you car and then are either picked up or have the use of a battered old Fiesta to drive the last few hundred meters. We gave up with the Fiesta and walked which was fine for us as we're quite fit and could carry everything in a rucksack. It's quite isolated but if you're after a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life then this is the place.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

To start with we flew to Pisa so not really environmentally friendly. We shopped locally but also ended up going to the equivalent of Tesco's! A new experience for us as we don't use Supermarkets at home and now we remember why! Unfortunately the location of the place meant a car was essential even though we had wanted to holiday without having to hire a car. Because we had the hire car we felt compelled to use it to explore the area and so did not have the relaxing, lounging about holiday we had hoped for. We also ate out locally a few times and recycled as much as possible including adding to our hosts’ compost heap!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Great place. Some of the travel aspects meant it was quite stressful at times but on the whole a good holiday.
