Uzumlu villa holiday, Turkey, independent reviews

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The Villa in Uzumlu was absolutely stunning and the surrounding area really beautiful - the sea water was so warm and so turquoise that it almost seemed unreal.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The beach at Oludeniz is definitely worth a visit even though quite touristy but set up camp on the sea side rather than the lagoon side - it's far more quiet and just as picturesque. We found late July just a bit too hot during the day and even at night so next time would go earlier (or much later) in the year. If yacht-gazing and marina life are your thing I would not bother heading to Gocek but just head for the marina in Fethiye - it's really lovely (serious yachts!) and the bar and restaurant at the Ece Saray hotel are a great vantage point.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Yes - we always used the local shops in Uzumlu (bakery, pie shop etc.) and got our fruit and veg from the Tuesday market in Fethiye and the Friday market in Uzumlu. We also bought lots of sea-bass, calamari and prawns from the fish market in Fethiye. We befriended a local villager for babysitting services and we also bought table cloths and scarves from our village which are all made by the locals - really lovely.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
A really great holiday in a fabulous part of the world that we will definitely return to - next time we have Istanbul and Ephesus on our list.
