Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same trip can have different views!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Walking from our accommodation through the unspoilt forest on excellently signed footpaths to a house in the woods that serves excellent traditional food.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Make use of the DVD and book libraries in the main house, they're great! Don't attempt to walk to the Arber (get the bus instead). If Martin & Margaret are doing a BBQ and schnapps tasting evening, go along, it's great to meet the other guests. One note of caution - the internet speeds can be quite slow out there due, I suppose, to the relative remoteness of the location. They have wifi, though, and it's possible to do basic web browsing etc.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, everything that could be recycled is recycled. The owners support local businesses, and seem to have good links with them,

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very enjoyable stay, great accommodation, very friendly hosts. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a holiday in a beautiful location with loads to see and do (all of which is detailed in an up to date and meticulously prepared and researched information folder left in the room).

Read the operator's response here:

The slow internet speed here is a nuisance - for us as well as guests! We are looking into providing some kind of booster system in the house Andrew stayed in, to get the absolute best out of what is available. The only other solution is to pressure the German government to get the whole broadband provision in this area upgraded!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

It’s the first time in many years that Christmas has actually felt like Christmas. The Christmas market in the town was lovely, the snow, the fire logs and braziers, hot mulled wine and Christmas carols in the background. Just a wonderful atmosphere.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Investigate the local transport system thoroughly. The buses and trains are very good and we could have used them much more than we did.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I am sure that the local businesses must have benefited. We ate, drank and shopped locally and used the train service. We recycled according to instructions. We used our own vehicle more than necessary, which is probably the only negative impact we made.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I was not quite ready to leave this beautiful place. The apartment was lovely, we could not have wished for more attentive hosts. Margaret and Martin thought of everything and did all that they could, and then some more to ensure our holiday was fabulous. From the kind gift of chocolates, Christmas cake and bubbly to arranging a superb Christmas party, with food, drink and musical entertainment for all their guests. I cannot recommend this holiday enough.
