Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same trip can have different views!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Being out in the wilds of Africa, seeing the fauna and flora in its natural environment, in all its wonderful variety and abundance, particularly in El Karama and the Masai Mara, but being aware how endangered it is and the conflict with human pressures. The sheer number of different animals and birds we saw, so that we became complacent about the more common ones such as Zebra, and gazelles, which were so exciting when we first arrived. Also the people we met and how welcoming and helpful they were.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

When you budget make adequate allowances for tipping which comes to quite a bit in all - but people are reliant on it, and the proportion of the overall spend is small.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes - the places where we stayed supported local communities, especially in the Mara where it was part owned and wholly run by the Masai. We had local guides and everyone we met told us how important it was to them to have visitors to support the conservancies and general economy of Kenya. They also wanted us to pass on that Kenya is now safe and peaceful - and certainly we saw no signs of trouble and always felt safe. The building materials for the places we stayed were all local and sustainable, and the power was solar in 2 of the 4 places and heating and water were from sustainable wood gathered locally, or solar power.
