1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
There were many memorable moments of our honeymoon in Croatia. One of the first memories was the stunning view from our hotel in Dubrovnik. Crystal clear blue sea with the medieval walled city in the back drop. We fell in love with this beautiful historical city and walking around the medieval walls at sunset was a definite highlight.
After 4 days in Dubrovnik we drove to Split to take the ferry to the island of Vis. The drive was stunning - a string of islands nestled between the glistening water. The island was so beautiful.
We stayed in Villa Nonna in Komiza which had been restored with local materials. One of the highlights whilst on the island was our ten course slow food experience. We travelled by boat to a tiny cove to meet Sencko infamous on the island for his traditional cooking methods. The tiny "restaurant" was up the small cliff overlooking the cove and was filled with Croatian holiday makers who told us they return year on year to this place for the great food. We were served amazing soup a variety of fresh fish and wonderful local lamb alongside a plenitude of home made wine! The whole experience was wonderful and we got to meet many local people and gain an understanding of traditional food, wine and the way of life.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
For others booking this holiday I would say be prepared for chaos at the ferry ports if you are going by car! Split was confusing and we and other foreign travellers were unsure that we were on the right ferry until departure!
Get there very early, especially in August. When leaving from Vis (especially on a Saturday) get there at least an hour and half before as the ferry only allows for 120 cars. Also, be prepared to smoke a lot of other peoples cigarettes in Croatia - everyone smokes and are very surprised if you do not! 3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Finally, we would like to think that this holiday benefited local people and minimized the impact on the environment. If we had more time we would have taken a ferry or bus to Split, by car is never our first choice.
I like to think we helped out local businesses by eating at only restaurants and konobas that were owner managed and used local produce. We drank only local beverages, and the beer and wine was excellent. A downside which always occurs when abroad was the issue of the recycling of the plastic water bottles. We couldn't find facilities to do this and felt terrible about leaving these on the island. .4. Any other comments?
Overall, we would rate this holiday ****. We have travelled a lot around the world and found that Croatia had something very special to offer. The company was excellent and everything was organised meticulously, we especially enjoyed the gourmet notes and information about local places to visit.
Thank you very much and I'm sure we will be visiting your site again soon.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Sailing and staying on Vis, sitting on our balcony watching the yachts come and go. The waterfalls at Krka National Park were spectacular.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Go sailing around Brac and Hvar and stay on Vis. Split is completely under-rated, the old town is great, it's worth staying there a few days.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Yes, but the Croatian gov't should impose regulations that all sailing boats have holding tanks for their effluent. It is not nice that all these pleasure craft are "dumping" effluent into shallow water, especially when the crystal clear bays are marred by this (I did see this). This could have a serious impact on tourism in the future. No turds please in your crystal clear waters and bays.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Fantastic

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Being able to explore Vis Island for a week was wonderful. We saw it by car, by sea, and were able to interact with many people who have spent their lives there and even have dinner with some of them. It was a very genuine travel experience.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The place that we stayed had no air conditioning and no screens on the windows. It was quite hot and humid while we were there but we had to shut the windows at night otherwise the mosquitoes were terrible, so it was difficult to sleep. If I did it again I would make sure that there was either air conditioning or mosquito nets. Also, bring water shoes because the beaches are rocky and there are some sea urchins.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Most definitely.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Other than our difficulty sleeping and some bug bites, we loved Vis and loved the people there. It was amazing to be able to walk out our front door and to straight down to the turquoise waters of the adriatic to take a swim. It is a unique island with a lot of history and we were able to learn a lot during our time there.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide us with your detailed feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your holiday on Vis Island and felt it was a genuine travel experience. In response to the problem you had with the heat and mosquitoes at your property -
Your decision to stay in a property without air conditioning would normally not be a big issue in June, but unfortunately this area was hit by a heat wave this summer. Many of our Vis Island properties do now have air conditioning and hopefully as the island continues to develop, air conditioning will become a norm, not a luxury. Screens on windows are unfortunately not standard equipment in Croatia, however our local hosts were very accommodating and after hearing about the heat and bug problems, brought up a fan and fitted a screen on the bedroom window. Hopefully that made your stay more comfortable. We personally visit every property and every location in our portfolio and we attempt to offer our clients detailed and honest information on every property. We will however work on further highlighting the air conditioning element of our properties in order to enable our clients to choose the holiday that is right for them.
