Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same trip can have different views!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The village is set in an amazing location and has been restored sympathetically, maintaining its sense of age and history. The view from our balcony across to the surrounding hills, was spectacular.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

The waymarked local walks which can be undertaken from the village itself are well worth doing. Routes maps were available from the local Osteria (as well as being prominently displayed on boards in each of the surrounding villages). The walks are graded in difficulty and take you through old terraces, olive groves, wooded hillsides, picturesque ruins and pretty lanes, as well as the surrounding villages. In the heat of summer they are best undertaken in the cool of the morning. The Osteria (Inn) in the village is worth a visit. It serves quality simple fare and the views from the terrace are amazing (particularly at dusk).

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The promotion of the local walks meant that it was possible to do a lot from the village itself without the need to use the car.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

All three of us really enjoyed it. This is a great location in peaceful picturesque surroundings. The apartment itself was also well appointed.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The quiet location 15 minutes away from the August crowds of the Riviera. The solitude of walking among the hills and hamlets.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Hire a car to get there, do the local walks, sample their recommended restaurants and enjoy the pool!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Extra trade for local businesses and focus on minimal environmental impact in the village although not clear how much solar power used when there was certainly enough summer sun.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Too brief, excellent hideaway.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Peace and quiet, and uniqueness of the village, together with the amazing artwork to be found even in the smallest of village churches.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Hire a smaller car for the hairpin roads, Take a good book as Italy close between 12 and 4.00pm. Don't bother with the Riviera unless you like beach umbrellas! - however Alessi is ok - Monte Carlo is obscene - Nice much better.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Essentially a rural area, so brings in some currency if you purchase local produce and wine. The village had been rebuilt - probably would have been lost to crumble away if not redeveloped into a holiday village - would be a sad loss.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very relaxing and peaceful, and comparable with UK prices - Italians are also ripped off for fuel!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

We enjoyed the quiet of the village, as we were early not many people about. Nice walks and views.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Don’t bother with the hamper on arrival, couldn't make a meal out of it... paid 50 euros and was hardly anything in it. Only because the manageress was good did we get milk for toddler.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Not sure really but guess it gave people work witch wouldn't otherwise be there.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very nice place but think better as out of season, feel may be overlooked in high season. Everyone very helpful and pleasant.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your holiday in Colletta but sorry that the hamper wasn't as you expected. We have taken note of your comments and in future we shall put less in the way of typical local products in the basket and more fresh produce which can be more easily used to prepare a meal on arrival.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The village of Colleta is amazing. A beautiful location and the village has been restored to an excellent standard. I think it would be rare to find such a comfortable convenient yet old setting. Waking up in and driving up to the village was beautiful - very clean and relaxing.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I would be wary of booking this location with toddlers, for the elderly or for anyone who is not sure-footed. The walking surfaces are very uneven and there are many steps. There are also many areas where children could fall. It is fine for children of 5+ but they will need rules like "don't climb on the balconies". When we were there the cloud tended to linger in the day so we went to Alassio for sun and sea - only 20-30 minutes drive so not a problem. Finally the restaurant at Colleta is very good but service can be slow and people generally eat late so not great if you are eating with younger children.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I think local people have generally benefitted from having a beautiful village restored and if setting it up as a holiday spot made that happen, then yes.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

The holiday was great. I don't think there can be many of these beautifully restored villages. The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly.

Read the operator's response here:

We're very pleased you enjoyed your holiday with us and thank-you for your enthusiastic comments about the village. We do in fact mention on our website that the paths are uneven and therefore not suitable for people with limited mobility:

"The village has been internally restored to 21st century standard but the externals are authentic to the village 12th century roots. This means that most walking surfaces are uneven and you will need to be able-footed. The car park is 50m above the village but you can stop your car at the village entrance to unload your luggage. ... Flat shoes are recommended and luggage will need to be compact to enable you to navigate your way to your apartment. Wheels will not work on the our roads."

However, many families with small children come here and all find it a magical place. We feel that with normal parental supervision the dangers are small and there is the added benefit that the village is car-free. We apologize for any slow service in the osteria during the busy summer period and we are now offering an early evening meal for those who wish it, as long as it is booked in advance.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The location was so quiet and peaceful.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

A car is essential. There are lots of walks around the accommodation which are clearly marked with coloured signs. The boards mapping out all the walks are usually located near the more major roads.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

This wasn't immediately evident but I believe the way that this accommodation was restored benefited local people and minimised impacts on the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent.
