1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

After five or six hours of very hot and strenuous walking through the jungle we suddenly came out on the top of a hill that had been cleared of jungle. On the edge of the hill were two huts and a rice barn, all made of bamboo, standing high on bamboo legs and thatched with dry banana leaves. Pottering about were chickens, ducks, dogs, cows and water buffalo, the latter clanking their wooden bells. Beyond and all around the jungle rolled away in a series of luscious green hilltops, into a misty purple distance. This was home for the night. You felt you were the first people on earth: it was a privilege to be in such a lonely and exquisitely beautiful place. I'll never forget it.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Girls, take a sarong! It's useful as a dress, as a shawl it can cover your shoulders or round the waist it can give you a modest skirt if you've been walking in short shorts. You can hang it in your hut for a screen, get changed under it, knot it up into a shoulder bag for bits you collect on your way, use it as a towel, wrap it into a turban, use it as a sunshade. And if you have to wash in the open air a friend can hold it round you. Be prepared for mud!!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, but we had reservations about the trustworthiness of our guide and hoped that if he was doling out the subsidies from the company someone was checking on him!
