Holiday Reviews
We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same trip can have different views!

Activity holidays in the Ardeche, independent reviews

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
My younger son (11) achieved things within the activities that I did not anticipate. It stretched him and did him the world of good.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
The standard of campsites in the area, and the facilities they offer, varies greatly. Be sure the site you use has the facilities you need. Had we not had our own transport self catering would have been difficult as the shops were remote from the camp site we used.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
There are obvious economic benefits to any area arising from tourism and this trip was no exception. The activities we did were mostly low carbon - canoeing, pony trekking, walking, cycling, fishing, although we did indulge our boys in a quad biking session on the last day which was less environmentally sensitive. We camped for most of our trip. Our travel company used a mini bus to transport us and the other family with whom we did most of the activities around the area - much more efficient than individual cars, better for reducing congestion and good for building a team spirit.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
The holiday was great, and I would recommend the tour operator. We had a terrific storm during our stay and our tent was structurally damaged so we could not use it. The tour operator was great in helping to find alternative accommodation - it was a holiday weekend and there was virtually nothing to be had. They found us a hotel space for 4 nights. The hotel were really friendly and did everything they could to help - including use of their garage to dry and store wet camping equipment - but half board hotel accommodation added significantly to the cost of our trip. We spent the remainder of our stay in a rented caravan on the camp site we had been camping on. The caravan, whilst dry and an improvement on our broken tent, was musty and uncomfortable. My wife in particular did not enjoy staying there and could not wait to leave. On balance we met lots of friendly people who did their best to help in difficult circumstances. The area was great with lots to do and I am sure we will go back. I just hope we do not get any storms next time.
