Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same trip can have different views!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The Soca river is both fantastically beautiful and great fun; canyoning was a genuinely awesome experience. Kobarid is a lovely little town to spend some time in: as the Soca is fast and cold, you can nip up the road on your days off to the Nadiza which is a lovely place to swim.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

A fair level of fitness definitely aids enjoyment.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Everything was highly integrated into the local economy, and the environmental impacts of all of the river activities that go on on the Soca are very well managed. Quite a lot of neoprene is inevitably involved in the holiday.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Probably the best holiday that we have ever had: we were really well looked after in an incredibly beautiful place.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Very hard to pick a best part as it was all brilliant. Happy children, exhilarating and exciting activities and the feeling that we all did conquer the 27m waterfall during the canyoning to name but a few. Guess what really made it all the more special was the fantastic local activity company - They were superb

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Just do it!!!! Don't worry that it will be too much for you - I've gone from a sedentary mother to a fearless adrenalin junkie (well almost) in an all too short week. BY the way don't worry about shoes for the water - all is provided.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes - Most guides were young locals and family run hotel was very much part of the community. All travel was shared and now damage done to beautiful Slovenia countryside during activities.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

A superb family experience. I just wish we could do it all over again!!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The activities were the exciting parts, especially the kayaking. The most memorable part was the Maya team, their professionalism and the attention to detail which they offered to make you feel part of a large family.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

They should book all the activities rather than choose just a few when booking. Once you are part of a group you will find that you want to do things together and only end up booking extras when there. In July, August it can be quite hot and only a cardigan and wet gear is needed for the occasional rain.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

I don't think there was any impact on the environment with any of the activities which we did. I felt the local people just get on with their daily lives and as a tourist you fit in very easily. Tourism provides income and employment so of course it benefits.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Paragliding... not part of the program - but easily arranged through the same team. Natural friendship with fellow families on the same group - ensured a number of hilarious moments. Mini-rafting - perfect to enjoy the clear river waters, the fantastic scenery, and company of fellow group members.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

All the Slovenians we met were very friendly, sincere and helpful. Tolmin is as a safe place as one could wish for.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The hotel seems to be family run, the activities are conducted by Slovenians from the same region, and (minimal transport apart) do not pollute or damage the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Much more than ever expected. Considering relocation there!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Watching my seven year old's knees knocking before finally jumping 4m down into a pool on the canyoning trip - I had no excuse then not to follow him!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Watch out for the lumpy beds!!!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Nearly all of the staff at the activities company were locals - young people doing something that they loved in their summer holidays and being paid for it; they all really seemed to enjoy their work. Tolmin is still a small town and the shops/restaurants were principally staffed by local people, the holiday appeared to provide a good deal of local employment. The activities company was very conscientious about protecting the beautiful environment and reminding visitors to respect and care for it too.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fantastic; a beautiful country, lovely people and a great mix of activities and free time.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The surprise meal on the penultimate evening (at Franco's), and canyoning.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for the grappa! You may want to check how many other people are booked on the same holiday. There was only one other family in our group. Fortunately we got on very well together, but it might have been claustrophobic if we hadn't.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes: used local providers. However air, and a fair amount of road travel involved, so can't be said to have minimised the environmental impact. Our choice, though...

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Very good.
