Holiday Reviews

We invite every traveller who books a holiday via us to send in a review. Because we don't run the holidays they're completely independent and unedited... remember to read between the lines though, as two people on the same trip can have different views!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

1) Exciting / enjoyable - a) Being totally alone (or feeling like it) in the vast expanse of the Maasai Mara's rolling plains. b) Seeing a family of cheetahs on the final day in the conservancy, having failed to find them in the Mara itself.
2) Memorable - seeing the aftermath of the wildebeest migration, in terms of the hundreds of rotting corpses of the animals who didn't make it across one of the main crossings. Before this trip I had thought I would like to see the Great Migration live, but this made me realise the terrible price paid by the animals, and the horrendous scenes it must entail.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

We were quite disappointed with the Amboseli, even allowing for the bad weather we experienced on one of the two days. The time and cost of travel between the Amboseli and Maasai Mara are significant, and I would recommend staying longer in the Mara, possibly even staying at both of the Mara camps instead, and not bothering with Amboseli.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, definitely. The Maasai themselves seem very happy with the arrangement whereby they lease their land as a conservancy and benefit both in terms of direct payments per visitor, plus employment on the camps.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

The Maasai Mara is definitely a superior experience to the Amboseli, which we actually found rather disappointing, hence only the three stars.
