Gorilla safaris in Rwanda, independent reviews

Reviewed 30 Aug 2007 by Jim Read

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The Gorilla Trek when we met the Gorilla group was the most memorable. It was incredible to be so close to them and watch them in their natural habitat.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

There is a lot of travelling in a jeep and walking through difficult terrain on this tour so you should make sure you are fit and have comfortable footwear and clothes. Also do not have unrealistic expectations of the accommodation as it is sometimes basic but that is part of being in Africa and in particular in Rwanda where tourism is not so developed.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes, we used local porters on treks and local guides. We were made aware of having respect for the environment and how to behave when with the gorillas so as to minimise the impact of us being with them.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent overall though the accommodation could have been a bit better especially that in the south, the forest and chimp trek as the accommodation was a long way from the trek starting point and was not of a good standard. But these were minor things - overall it was a great holiday.
