1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

It is hard to pick out just one exciting memory because our holiday was so varied doing different things in different places - isolated and busy, relaxed and physically strenuous. But... riding an elephant at 6.30am on Xmas day through the Chitwan jungle and spotting the one horned rhino is hard to beat. I can still see the breathtaking views on our trek round the Kathmandu valley that were constantly changing as the early morning mist would rise revealing terraced hillsides and small villages way down below. All the Nepali people we met were only ever friendly, helpful and polite. We never felt threatened or unsafe. I developed a real taste for Daal bhaat and we ate some great momos.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

We went over Xmas and the New Year which is winter in Nepal and off peak season. Although mountain views are not always clear this time of year, I think this was compensated by the lack of other tourists. For 3 days on our trek we were the only white people and the places we stayed were never full or crowded. Pokhara had a 5 day street festival over New Year so it was busy but had a party atmosphere with local people as well as people from around the world. The tour operator whom we booked our holiday with were incredibly helpful and flexible. We wanted to alter and extend our itinerary and they couldn't have made it easier - so just ask for what you want to do. We thought they were very good value for money. If you have been to India, Nepal is more relaxed in comparison with less hassle from shop keepers and street traders. Don't forget your torch as nowhere has constant electricity. It's early to bed and early to rise.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

The tour operator is a small enterprise supporting 4 men in work. Their local knowledge and experience means that they have connections with village hotels and cafes, as well as hotels in more urban areas. Staying in these places definitely supports the local economy and local people. The money we paid to stay at the Island Jungle Resort in Chitwan, not only benefited local people but also wildlife conservation and the upkeep of the elephants - who were well cared for.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We had the most wonderful holiday - no bad bits - no complaints. We really recommend the tour operator. We award this holiday 41/2 - 5 stars!
