Although small, the Maritime Museum on Bequia has some beautiful models of boats that have played a part in Bequia's history together with old photographs and artefacts.
The museum is Lawson Sargeant's project and he is often on hand to impart his detailed knowledge of the island's seafaring past.
"It's something the island needed for a long time, to keep the history alive and tell people what the island been doing over the years."
Lawson Sargeant
It isn't just a selection of exhibits; the Museum also helps to keep local traditions alive. The children's coconut boat races had started to die out until Lawson and the Maritime Museum revived them and they are again an annual event.
"We make the coconut boats, give it to the kids and they race them. Last year we had 89 kids taking part."
Lawson Sargeant
