Both are packed with glorious plants, and the tropical climate means that there are always blooms for fragrant, colourful exotic specimens, both indigenous and imported.
The National Botanical Gardens is also historically significant as it was the first ever founded in the western hemisphere.
It includes a breadfruit tree descended from one brought to the islands by Captain Bligh after he survived the mutiny on HMS Bounty.
