How Koh Tao scuba diving centre, Thailand makes a difference
Environment
We teach all our divers to respect the reef. We promise that our divers do not collect shells, do not kick the reef, do not throw rubbish overboard, do not use plastic bags (unless really needed) and learn about the importance of the marine ecosystem. Our new mission is to teach the younger generation of divers about marine biology and the fragile ecosystem. It's not just about the ocean issues, we educate our customers on the importance of not wasting water, as this is a huge problem on small islands. The big project for us is to make people realise how important sharks are in our oceans, and get people to get over their irrational fears. By actually showing them sharks during our Sail Rock trip, they get to witness firsthand how majestic they are. This usually will stop people from eating in restaurants that serve shark fin soup, and ultimately save the sharks!
Community
As a member of the 'Save Koh Tao' community organisation (made up of local dive shops and businesses on the island) Roctopus Dive gets involved with reef clean-up projects when possible. We are also rated as a SSI Ecological Dive Center, so this means we train all our divers to respect the ocean and get involved with conservation projects. We encourage all our professional trainee (Divemaster trainees) to help with beach cleanup projects too. Roctopus Dive has actually produced a Dive Guide that most professionals on the island use, and in this guide is a section on how everyone can help preserve paradise. We support a small Thai restaurant 'Mint Kitchen' (the best on the island) by sending all our dive customers there to eat. We also would highly recommend Goodtime Adventures for people who are looking to do some climbing or zip-lining. Roctopus Dive strives to show people the beauty of the underwater world, and to have a positive impact on it.
