This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.
How this holiday makes a difference
Environment
The tours are conducted by the senior guide who has 25 years experience as a National Parks ranger. The main benefit is that we “Value add” to the visitor experience and enhance the appreciation and understanding of the natural values of the areas we visit. We offer personalised and small group tours with an emphasis on local history, geology, flora fauna, fire ecology and National Park management. Minimal impact touring is utilized both in an operational sense and by imparting understanding to guests of the values of the natural environment in the areas we visit.
Vehicle washing is undertaken from rain water collected in a poly tank from vehicle housing shed. Mains water is not used. We pay a voluntary green levy so that sustainable energy is part of the electricity power mix for office power.
Our registered office is situated on 2 ha of land. In excess of one thousand trees, which are indigenous to the local area, have been planted on the property. This is a major offset for the vehicle fuel used in the day to day operation of the company. Climate change is an integral component of all tours undertaken. Specifically, the role the Southern Ocean plays in carbon dioxide sequestration is discussed in depth. Guests are encouraged to minimise their day to day “footprint” on the planet.
Community
We specialise in value adding to the visitor experience on the Great Ocean Road and the Great Ocean Walk. We are based in the small coastal township of Port Campbell which is the closest town to the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge. We encourage all of our guests to explore the areas we visit on foot and as such, we incorporate extensive walking into all of our tours. The company placed great value in the opportunity of guests to meet members of the local community in a relaxed commercial and non commercial environment.
Port Campbell is a small community of 350. All accommodation, meals, fuel and supplies are sourced locally. Due to the East West walk direction of the Great Ocean Walk, the business in Port Campbell miss out on the advantages of the Walk as the vast majority of walkers start and finish at Apollo Bay and little benefit is returned to the local community.
We play a major role in the local Business and Tourism Association (Our senior guide has undertaken the role of President of the Twelve Apostles Business and Tourism Association). We are a member of Shipwreck Coast Tourism. We continue to support the local Heytesbury Historical Society and have been members of the “Falls of Halladale” Centenary Celebrations Committee.
We are an active member of the local community and regularly donate free accommodation which is auctioned as a means of fund raising for local families with children requiring expensive medical procedures.
