Petra tour from Amman, Jordan
How Petra tour from Amman, Jordan makes a difference
Environment
Petra Nights Tours believes that sustainable tourism cannot be fully accomplished unless our employees, especially drivers and guides, are properly educated and are aware of their country’s heritage importance. They are being trained for a professional behaviour with our guests by simple ways in communication to our tourists about the history of the sites and by conservation which plays a key role for cooperation from the visitors. Certainly tourists are made aware of that Jordan is one of the water poorest countries in the world, the water supply is a growing issue.
- Our guides take care of that no rubbish is left after visiting the sites, and to respect the culture of the communities, for instance not to bring alcohol.
- We use energy-friendly light sources in our office.
- We collect paper for reuse, and use copy paper as note paper.
- We separate bottles and waste glass for later collection.
- Our offices and our vehicles are non-smoking.
Community
- We support our community through employing only locals, who lived long enough in the specific area, to provide the services.
- We encourage guests to buy from local shops, souvenirs and handicrafts made by Jordanian women cooperation like Bani Hamida.
- We include in our tours or make recommendations for lunch and dinner meals at local restaurants or with local families.
- Where possible, we suggest overnight stays at local hotels, eco-friendly properties and campsites.
- In our itineraries we add the visit to local communities in Ajloun, Dana, Wadi Rum, Petra and Little Petra, so they can benefit from tourism. Here visitors learn about environmental and social issues and connect with local communities for a deeper understanding of cultures.
- We support the Horse Owners Association in Petra. Several hundreds of horses and donkeys are working in Petra to transport tourists and providing an income for local families. These animals work often under hard conditions, and donations provide for medical care and sometimes even food.
