introduction to Family holidays in Bavaria

Family holidays in The Bavarian Alps, Germany:

With fast flowing rivers and towering mountain scenery you can't fail to be impressed by Bavaria's alpine beauty. This holiday is a mixture of full and half day activities all of which are designed to be fun rather than backbreaking. Our activity leader Thomas is amongst the best in Europe and has run training, activity and team building camps for the British Army since 1993.

Our accommodation on our family holidays in Bavaria is family owned and offers a warm welcome and traditional evening entertainment. Wonderful landscapes, thrilling activities and a friendly Bavarian atmosphere all combine to make this a fun-filled and memorable family holiday

Accommodation: The Gasthof im Wiesengrund in Bad Hindelang is a family run guesthouse comprising of en-suite double and twin rooms and some family apartments sleeping up to 6 people. The bedrooms are 200m from the main building and provide a quiet and tranquil setting.

The hotel provides traditional Bavarian entertainment (lederhosen and all!) in the evenings. Your breakfasts and dinners are all served at the hotel and you will sample some local specialities as well as wider ranging international cuisine. A childrens menu is available.

The guesthouse also has a small solarium with a Finnish sauna and a tanning bed. There is a large open air public swimming pool next to the main building.
day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:Flights, arrival and welcome. For 2010 we have made this holiday self drive although we can of course arrange flights and car hire for you if you prefer. You can arrive in Bad Hindelang throughout the day. After settling in, there will be an introductory meeting with our guide followed by a welcome dinner.
Day 2:Team treasure hunt. A treasure hunt with a difference is the best possible way to start this activity week and get acquainted with the other families on the holiday. We will have to negotiate all sorts of tasks to find the treasure. These tasks vary from week to week but expect to be confronted by the likes of: a spider's web, building a rope bridge, tree climbing, a flying fox zip wire over a deep gorge, a team skiing competition and the traditional Bavarian art of Sumo wrestling!! Quite simply it's fun and laughter from start to finish.
Day 3:Tubing. It's wet but not wild on the River Iller, which makes it ideal for tubing. We spend the day twisting and turning on the beautiful stretch between Oberstdorf and Sonthofen. An hilarious experience!
Day 4:Canyoning. Today we head for a family friendly canyon and an exhilarating river descent. Enjoy natural rock slides, abseiling or jumping into deep pools of water as we descend the course of the canyon.
Day 5:Free day. Today you can further explore the region or try additional activities (payable locally).
Day 6:High ropes adventure course. Our high ropes course is set in the forest above the village of Sonthofen. We work our way through a number of rope tasks, each creating a unique mental and physical problem and requiring a different technique.
Day 7:Mini-rafting. Crossing the border into Austria we head for the Lech River. Mini-rafting is rather like white water rafting but, as the name suggests, in smaller inflatables. This gives you far more control over your raft and a far greater sense of individuality. A fabulous way to explore any river. There will be a farewell dinner this evening.
Day 8:Depart or extend your stay. Today we transfer back to the airport for your return flights or you may choose to extend your stay either in the Allgau Region, Austria or down by the Bodenese close to the Swiss/German border - the choice is yours!

traveller reviews for Family holidays in Bavaria

Most memorable? I'd have to plump for the white water rafting - fabulous, but the via ferrata we arranged on our free day was also awesome. (more)
how this holiday makes a difference
The Allgau Region of Southern Germany is the location for this family activity holiday. Specifically we are based in and around the German Town of Bad Hindelang, where our accommodation is the ‘Gasthof Im Wiesengrund’.

The Gasthof is owned and run by the Kullman Family and it is totally in character with the local environment and very traditional in all aspects.

Our local partners on our family holidays in Bavaria were all born and raised in the Allgau Region and are very proud of the natural beauty of the area in which they live and as a consequence are very committed to managing tourism in such a way as to enhance rather than adversely impact on this.

Their ethos with regard to activities is to only offer those which by definition do not in any way harm or damage the local environment. In addition, the guides and instructors act as unofficial wardens of the environment by reporting to the relevant authorities any examples of unnecessary abuse, pollution caused by visitors to the region.

Every endeavour is made to ensure that the local economy benefits directly from our presence including accommodation, transport and employment opportunities.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
