introduction to Yoga holidays in Spain

Our yoga holidays combine twice daily yoga with a range of energising & relaxing activities, therapies and delicious, healthy cuisine at stunning locations. Now in our 6th year, our breaks are limited to 12 guests to enable us to give personal attention and care at all times. And, as most people come on their own, you'll always find someone to have a chat with.

Holidays take place at two small hotels in the green zone of Alicante, Spain. Spring & Autumn holidays take place at a small hotel in the countryside on the edge of a beautiful artisan town. This home from home was a 300 year old olive mill before being converted into a chic hotel with peaceful gardens and swimming pool 4 years ago.

In the warmer Summer months, holidays take place at a gorgeous boutique hotel by the sea in a Spanish town. Here we practice yoga in the hotel’s private courtyard under the blue sky. Sun Salutations under the sun – you can’t beat it!

The holiday’s include two yoga classes a day, hearty buffet breakfasts, 3-course dinners with refreshments, twice daily yoga, guided hikes, pranayama & meditation workshops, welcome room gift, tour manager and a good selection of other energizing & relaxing activities.
activities
The Yoga: Twice daily yoga classes are a fusion of Hatha, Yin & Vinyasa Flow taught by two passionate, fully trained & certified teachers. Each day you’ll be practicing asanas, pranayama, relaxation, visualizations or meditation. Classes are ideal for keen beginners, those with a rusty practice and intermediate yogi’s. We aim to share our many ideas & tools to help you improve your practice back home.

Energizing & Relaxing Activities: In addition to yoga, you can choose to take part in a number of other activities that complement your yoga practice:

Guided Hikes: Led by a local experienced guide, our walks take you on the best routes to explore the area. A great way to stretch your legs & clear out the lungs.

Mountain biking:Our bike guide – Gary – knows the area like the back of his hand & is great at adjusting the route to suit the fitness level of the group. People are beaming when they return!

Meditation & Pranayama Workshops: In the meditation workshop you’ll try different meditation styles with plenty of explanation & answers from our Meditation Guru. The pranayama session retrains poor breathing habits so that your breath has a positive impact on your overall health & wellbeing going forward.

Ayurvedic workshop: Discover whether your body type (dosha) is pitta, kapha or vatta? Our genetic body type can reveal many truths about our characteristics and health.

Personal Training: if you want a kick start to a healthier lifestyle or revise your current programme, our fitness trainers will give you a personal session to help you make the most of your workout time & target the areas you need to strengthen.

Aromatheraphy Workshop: Great fun! Following theory & demonstration from the aromatherapist, you’ll be mixing your own prescriptive aromatheraphy face cream, body oil, scrub or masque.

Swimming: If you choose to holiday with us in the Summer, you’ll be a 5 min walk to the sea & a glorious safe, sandy beach. Spring & Autumn holidays are at a rural mountain hotel with its own outdoor pool.

Yoga breaks in Spain - Lotus Therapies: Everything from Luxurious Hydration Facials to Thai Massage, Reflexology, Reiki, Body Polishing Scrubs & Pedicures.

Horse riding: Is available locally for beginners & advanced.

Tennis lessons:
With a local coach … begin or improve your game.

What’s included in the holiday? Two yoga classes a day, guided walks, meditation & pranayama workshops, hearty buffet breakfasts, 3-course vegetarian dinners with refreshment (fish/meat options on some nights), accommodation in twin ensuite rooms, welcome room gifts and services of a tour manager throughout.

day-by-day itinerary
Each day is different, but upon waking a typical day could look like this:
  • Following the morning wake up yoga session, you’ll be feeling energized and ready for the buffet breakfast of fresh local fruits, juices, local free range eggs, cheeses, hams, cereals, yogurts, toasts, pastries, smoothies & herbal teas.
  • After this energizing start to the day, we may well then head off for a guided hike to stretch your legs and clear out the lungs. An excellent way to kick start your metabolism and enjoy the beautiful views.
  • Upon return to the hotel there will be some free time to rest, walk into town, swim or enjoy a relaxing therapy.
  • The day winds down with late afternoon restorative yoga followed by a 3-course vegetarian dinner, bursting with optimal nutrition to boost your immune system and recharge your batteries. (fish options available). On other days you could take part in other activities, take a therapy or simply relax & take a siesta to recharge your batteries.

how this holiday makes a difference
These holidays take place at two small hotels managed and run by warm, friendly – and experienced - locals. Their pride is omnipresent in the way in which they work to keep the hotels super clean and also in the way they greet guests like friends.

We only employ locals as guides, drivers, housekeepers, cooks, therapists & teachers not just because they are local, but because they are the soul of the area and bring historical colour and wealth of information that a guidebook could not.

We are in-debited to these fantastic people but, in the cold light of day, we realise our holidays help to keep families together for without this work, many would leave the area to find work away from home.

Energy & Recycling: In our office, we run our business efficiently; recycling all waste material & using natural resources as sparingly as possible. All guests are encouraged to act responsibly by minimising use of electricity, recycle waste packaging and in specifying when they need fresh towels. All water taps & toilets have been fitted with a device to reduce water flow, low energy light bulbs have been installed and hotel rubbish is recycled according to local authority policies.

Supporting Local Charities: We support two local charities with donations from our profit; a donkey sanctuary that cares for old or abandoned donkeys and a Home for children who are at risk.

Building Restoration: In the construction & renovation of the hotels, natural local materials where used and existing features preserved rather than replaced.

Food: We serve typical local dishes, with virtually all ingredients being sourced locally. This not only minimises packaging and supports local growers, but our meals then contain their optimum nutrition levels, being only hours from the ground to the table.

Culture: We encourage guests to explore & immerse themselves into the Spanish way of life by dining at local restaurants, visiting markets and buying gifts from local artisans and producers. And, if there’s a local festival … everyone’s invited to immerse themselves and taste the Spanish’s love of fiestas!

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
