Responsible tourism: South Downs campsite near Pulborough, England

We encourage all our visitors to recycle and compost using the facilities provided on the campsite, in the eco lodges and in the main residential building and conference centre.

Since the centre is based in a 32-acre woodland there is lots of wildlife surrounding us. You are likely to come across rabbits, deer, foxes and a large number of birds. The animals generally live in harmony with us as they have the woodland to inhabit. We do have some bird boxes dotted about for nesting and in the winter we put out feed to help the birds in the harsher conditions.

The nearest town with a train station is Pulborough; but we often pre-arrange with groups to pick them up using the 15-seater mini-bus that we have here on site. Groups can hire the bus; thereby giving people the option to arrive by public transport if they donít want to bring the car.

We are a registered charity and the fundraising that takes place here is to raise money to help keep the centre running. We also hold fundraising events to help raise money for other charities. Various events are held throughout the year, including a summer fete. We try to encourage people from the local communities to get involved too, by coming along for the fun or by having a stall where they are able to sell produce and things they have made.

The centre is useful to the local community as a venue to hold events or group meetings etc. Once a month the village lunch club meet once a month, the Wild Brooks Society have an annual barn dance and other societies and groups make use of our facilities also. If local charities want to use our services we will endeavour to do our best to support them.

We have an on site catering team that provide all of the food for guests to the centre. Everything is homemade and ingredients are sourced locally where possible.

There are some great attractions to visit in this part of the country and if you want to explore the area you can take a trip over to RSBP Pulborough, Bignor Roman Villa, Amberley Museum, Arundel town with its wetlands centre and castle and the Weald & Down Open air museum.

The centre is situated in the SDNP on top of a hill in 32 acres of woodland. We are surrounded by trees, the River Arun and the beautiful views out across the landscape since we have a high vantage point. The viewing point has information about what you can see in the different directions. You can see over to Arundel, The Amberley museum, Chanctonbury Ring and the River Arun flowing through the land. It's really a beautiful spot and the views change through the seasons; the snow covered land in the winter, the flooded river or the sun shining on the open land and through the trees in the woods.

Since we are in the countryside there are plenty of places to go walking. If you want to explore the local area there are footpaths and bridle paths for a ramble or a cycle. We are fairly close to the brooks, or you can go from the hill over to Storrington and down to the river. The South Downs Way can be joined at Bury; this is a nice walk along the river or we can arrange pick-ups in our mini bus for those stopping over for the night.

Our woods can also be great to explore and they are fenced in so you wont get lost. Some of our activities take place in the woods and it is great to go wondering and letting off some energy. It's a great environment for people to get out of the towns and into nature.
