Description of Glamping in Central Portugal

Go glamping in central Portugal at a gorgeous campsite that’s open all year round.

Set amongst eucalyptus trees, vineyards, olive groves and pine forests, within walking distance of a local village and just 9kms from the town of Tomar, our site is pure bliss for campers looking for a touch of glamour in the Portuguese countryside.

This region of central Portugal is regarded as the greenest in the whole country with plenty of peace and tranquillity alongside places to picnic such as lovely Lake Zezere – great for a cooling wild swim.

We have lovely natural camping spots for our visitors to enjoy the carefree atmosphere of summer under the warm Mediterranean sun. At night marvel at the millions of stars in the unpolluted skies above as you drift off to sleep in your comfy canvas bell tent.

Glamping in central Portugal is an ideal option for travellers looking to live outdoors but who don’t want to carry lots of kit and equipment. Our bell tents are very affordable, too, and come complete with one double and/or two single futon beds with proper mattresses and bedding. They also are supplied with indoor tables and chairs, a cool box, electric lighting, fans and storage facilities. Mosquito nets and citronella burners are available on request from reception.

The tents are set in shaded areas of our one hectare site that also has drinking water and an electric supply. Outside facilities include table and chairs, sun umbrella and hammock. Nearby we have a campers’ kitchen which has a washing up area, fridge/freezer facilities, cooker and microwave, kettle and toaster and all the crockery and cutlery you could wish for.

Breakfast can be self prepared or you can take a leisurely bar breakfast by the swimming pool whilst listening to the early morning bird chorus. As we’re open all year round you can come for a visit whenever you like. We love spring and autumn, in particular, as conditions are just right for glamping.

Rooms, food and facilities

Glampers can pass their time relaxing in the pool, playing a variety of outdoor games, using our outdoor fitness area and making friends with our appreciative animals. For younger children, there is also a large wooden playhouse and play equipment set in the shade on artificial grass.

Guests can also make use of our bicycles and kayaks or take a stroll with our adorable pony.

From our campsite you can explore a variety of interesting trails some of which start immediately from our site or others that are a short drive away. The self-guided trails are well documented with maps and pictures and have been designed with walkers of average fitness in mind. An English speaking guide can be arranged on request.

At our on-site bar and café, guests can partake in Portuguese or European dishes and savour a glass of local wine or beer whilst chatting with an international mix of visitors. Breakfast can be Continental or a full English.

The bar/café has free internet connection and is open from 8.30am until late. Library, games and DVDs are also available.

Groceries available include: olive oil, free range eggs, local wine, seasonal fruit & veg as well as a small selection of essentials.

Environment

We have installed solar energy panels to provide hot water and electricity for our site. We run a mini-recycling point for plastic, glass, waste paper/card, bottle tops and tin cans and use our waste water for watering the trees and plants. Our olives are grown organically on site and harvested in the traditional method after which they are pressed at the local co-operative. We decant the oil into recycled bottles from our Bar and this is then offered for sale in our Reception. We make jams and marmalades from the fruits growing on site for use with our breakfasts and for sale to visitors. Visitors are also at liberty to sample the produce of our gardens. Our honey is collected from local hives and repackaged in recycled glass jars. We compost our animal, garden and suitable food waste and sell to local residentes as garden compost. We encourage our visitors to use public transport, share cars or taxis and use bicycles when possible. We operate a No Smoking policy in our accommodation and Bar. Many varieties of birds and other wildlife thrive in the sub-tropical atmosphere of the gardens we have created.

Community

We employ local staff and in addition support a tourism trainee scheme run by the Portuguese government by employing a trainee. Our professional services are supplied by Portuguese. We are members of the local village Association and support local charities and fairs by donating products or vouchers for use at our premises. We take part in our local village events and encourage clients to join us at these. Our suppliers are all local businesses and we buy Portuguese products wherever possible. The wines we use are all from local vineyards and we have two displays of locally produced wines for visitors to buy. To offer a marketing outlet for local villagers we sell their "country products" ie, wine, honey, jams, eggs in our reception area. We have organised discounts for our clients at local Restaurants both to support the restaurants and to offer our clients good service We have an annual Christmas lunch to thank all our workers and supporters.
