Waste Disposal
Top O' Tobago composts all its organic waste, collects all plastic waste and takes it to the plastic collection depots. We also return beverage and beer bottles to the manufacturer for reuse.

Water Treatment, Re-Use and Conservation
Top O Tobago further treats the water supplied from the water authority using depth sand filters, micron filtration and UV disinfection. This eliminates the need for guests to purchase bottled water and reduces the plastic bottle waste.

We also collect rain water from our roofs and grey water from our patios and sinks, treat it using two sand filters, and use this water for agricultural purposes.

There are also small signs in each bathroom indicating: 'Water is precious in Tobago. Please conserve.'

Energy Conservation
Top O' Tobago uses natural ventilation supplemented by fans for cooling. The open design and the hilltop location allows ample cooling by the natural breezes without the need for air conditioning.
The main house at Top O’ Tobago also employs a solar water heater.

Employee Care and Development
Top O Tobago employs four full time employees, most of whom have been with the company for several years. Silja is our onsite manager; Susan is our housekeeper/ bookkeeper; Zambo and Trevor are our maintenance personnel and gardeners.
Through a mix of on the job training and formal courses, Silja has learned how to manage the daily accounting, Susan has learned how to use excel spreadsheets and Zambo has learned how to take care of the pool and build and repair anything that needs repairing.

Community Involvement
Top O' Tobago is an active member of Environment Tobago, a local Tobago NGO, which focuses on care of the environment.
We are also a member of the Tobago Hotel and Tourist Association, a member association of organizations which collaborate to bring responsible tourism to the island of Tobago.
Top O’ Tobago actively participates in the programs offered by the Ministry of Tourism in Tobago and attended their Sustainable Tourism Conference in 2013.

Friends and Neighbours
Top O’ Tobago has been an integral part of the local community for 17 years. We only provide self catering accommodation and refer guests to other local providers for other services.
Within each cabana and in the main house, we provide our guests with a handbook entitled ‘Island Information’ which we prepared ourselves, and which contains references to local groceries, restaurants, tour guides, shopping, tours, car rental agencies etc. It also contains emergency contact information for doctors, dentists etc. Many guests have complimented us on the value of this booklet.
Silja, our onsite manager, also lives on the property, and directs guests to the local providers.
