Description of Rural Umbria, B&B in Italy

Set within the heart of rural Umbria our farm offers B&B accommodation in a 19th century villa, which is registered in the list of Italian cultural heritage palaces. We also have opportunities to stay in typical Umbrian houses that can be lived in as self-catering apartments or on a B&B basis.

Our lovely large garden has a tennis court and a swimming pool. There’s also an equestrian centre for horse riding lessons and horse riding tours in the beautiful surrounding woods and countryside. This part of rural Umbria is perfect for walkers with lots of lovely trails leading right from the farm.

Our farm restaurant makes the perfect place to complete a day spent outdoors with regional dishes and typical Italian treats ensuring there’s never an empty plate left at the farm table.

Other things to do, close to the farm, include: wine cellars and local olive oil and cheese producers where you can taste delicious Umbrian specialities as well as buying a few souvenirs to take home. There are also cooking classes available close by. Just let us know if you’re hoping to channel your inner Marco Gubbiotti. We can also suggest places to go fishing with local fishermen as well as ballooning high above the rolling rural Umbrian countryside.

Nearby towns and villages, such as Perugia, Assisi and Montefalco, present myriad medieval and Etruscan treasures as well as offering pleasant places to sit, wander and ponder amidst charming cultural heritage and timeless Italian streets. Lake Trasimeno, also, is just 15 mins’ drive from Poggiolo, and invites the perfect place for an alfresco picnic as well access to the ferry to the lake’s islands.

Depending on the dates, we will give you information to participate in local events, from historical representations, such as the Gaite in Bevagna, to rural fairs where you can experience traditional meals and local products, as well times for the local organic farmers’ markets.

This is rural Umbria. Come relax, eat, explore and enjoy la dolce vita.

Rooms, food and facilities

In the Villa there are six rooms with bathrooms (two double rooms and four suites), each one is different from the other, in a typical 19th century style.

There is a living room with a fireplace, a dining room, and a porch where you can have a typical Italian breakfast.

We have also seven apartments that can accommodate from one to 12 guests.

Each apartment has a kitchen and a dedicated part of the garden for your own barbecue.

Kids are welcome - if you need a cot, just let us know.

So are dogs, if they are well educated, and they can enjoy the company of Stella and Siria, our own dogs.

You can relax in the garden, walk in the woods (fenced), enjoy the swimming pool, with deck chairs and umbrellas, play tennis (we will give you tennis rackets and balls), learn to ride a horse or do some horse trekking, and have dinner at the restaurant. Near the villa there are also some regional paths for cyclists and walkers. We have four bikes for our guests. If you want more technical ones, we can suggest you where to hire them.

Responsible tourism: Rural Umbria, B&B in Italy

Poggiolo offers accommodation in the Villa, registered in the list of certified Italian cultural heritage palaces, with its carefully restored typical frescoes, and in 5 typical rural houses, that preserve their old characteristic.

It is part of the Consorzium Terre di Bulgarelli and of Contado di Porta Eburnea, that networks local producers and rural people to support a responsible global development of the territory based on its typical local products. They work together to preserve the territory and the environment, enhance the local landscape, mainly olive groves and vineyards, and support the conservation of local buildings to restore them and do not demolish them to build new ones.

The Poggiolo farm production is certified as organic, and it grows local varieties supporting thus also the preservation of biodiversity. Among its properties, there is a wood, which is carefully maintained and not exploited to preserve and support wild life and biodiversity with dedicated projects.

Furthermore, the Poggiolo is, since 5 years, totally relying on solar power as its source of energy. It has been necessary a big investment to achieve this goal but we are very proud of contributing to preserve the environment.
