Carbon reduction
Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.
Environment
We live in as eco-friendly as possible and re-use and re-cycle as much as possible. The tree house was built using local labour and materials where possible - it is powered by solar electricity, has a modern compost toilet and hot and cold shower powered by the sun.
I also grow Olives for oil and use local labour for harvesting and transporting to the press. I do not use any chemicals on the site at all and prefer nature to take its course. I encourage people to walk as much as they can around the area.
My way of life is very simple and I go with the rhythm of the seasons as much as I can. I have frogs and toads in the ponds and also have many lizards, birds, gecko's and tortoises living in harmony. There is also an abundance of indigenous wild flowers on the site including bee orchids, poppies, anemones and wild iris in fact through the year there are 80 different sorts of wild flowers that I have seen.
Community
We support local business as much as we can by buying meat and eggs from the local farmers and using the Tavernas in the village of which there are several. I also buy my goat and sheep muck from the village for the garden.
The people are very friendly here and we all help each other out. This is a farming area and so everyone knows each other. There is also cheese and honey made in the village so I buy what I can from the locals, hand made socks too. I also use local tradesmen for any jobs I need doing. My land blends in with the nature around and if something needs doing that I cannot manage I ask the locals for help. I organise locals and others to keep the village clean by having a monthly pick up of any rubbish that is hanging around the verges or parking areas.
If you prefer not to hire a car I can show you lots of local walking routes or organize day trips with a driver to give you a new dimension.
We also try to support the local charities in kalamata for the Greek people and refugees.
