Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
The lighthouse villa uses renewable energy - solar panels which are located at the roof of the lighthouse supplement the electricity supply for the entire islet. In this way the lighthouse produces the electricity for its needs.Whilst staying on the islet our clients do not use the cars.
We use sea water for filling the pool and the pool. Salt water pools are becoming increasingly popular because they are thought to be healthier, needing fewer chemicals and they have much lower negative impact on the environment. The use of chlorine is significantly lower comparing to the fresh water pools which is also minimizes negative environmental impact
We encourage our guests to reuse the towels and thus help us in energy- and water-efficiency conversations.
We encourage sorting waste and recycling in order to create the lowest environmental impact possible.
We also ask clients to think about their water consumption whilst staying on the island and to use water sparingly.
People
The lighthouse Grebeni is run by a local company. We recruit only locally - we use local services and suppliers such as builders, trades men, laundry service, and if the clients require them - local chefs. We offer to our clients the option of booking a local chef who would promote traditional Croatian cuisine and who uses only fresh local ingredients for preparation of the dishes. In this way our clients have an opportunity to learn about local cuisine and gastronomy.
At the arrival, we direct our guests to the local grocery stores where they can buy fruits and vegetables that are grown locally. In this way we support local economy and at the same time our guests have a chance to buy fresh local organic food. We also recommend some great local restaurants where the clients have a chance to try some specialties typical for the island of Korcula.
Reconstruction of the lighthouse was undertaken by local people.
We also offer local excursions and promote the region's cultural attractions to our clients
