Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

We are a partner company Garajonay National Park, have signed the EUROPEAN CHARTER FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM, reflecting our commitment to the environment and sustainability.
Our activities include:
- The proper treatment of waste and litter (recycling).
- The use of cleaning products that have no impact on the environment.
- We have drip irrigation and it is scheduled according to the season of the year.
- Also we explain to the guests about the island natural resouces, in special about Garajonay National Park. We talk and report writing and audiovisual material, also send tourists to points of information in case guests that require more detailed information.
We are concentrating our efforts on installing the most efficient devices to protect our environment.

*Thermal solar energy installation to produce sanitary hot water.
*A rainwater collection system to drip irrigation as this is the most efficient way to save lots of water.
*Heat pump as a a great way to offer an energy-efficient alternative to furnaces and air conditioners.
The companies that have joined the Charter of La Gomera(CETS) collaborate actively with Garajonay National Park and are commited with the stimulation of sustainable tourism in the island.
We also are members of ASETUR (Spanish Association of Rural Tourism). This institution certified the house and our activity.
We care for the environment as we would like to preserve the local heritage. Our surroundings are the beauty of our island.
La Palmita Cottage wants our island to still breathing.

The Impacts of this Trip

Casa Rural La Palmita is strongly commintted with sustainable developement and local community improvement. We try to use enviromentally friendly local products and services, as far as possible. We invite guests to know local customs and crafts. Also we inform our guests of our commitment to sustainability and environment. With regard to the information that tourists ask us, our commitment is to inform them about the tourism resources of La Gomera and the need to preserv them, in special the Garajonay National Park and the "silbo gomero", declared World Heritage by UNESCO. We constantly inform tourists about the best hiking trails, especially the circulars, they do not need the car to do it.

In our gardens we use native plants and biological crops that abonamos with our own compost. Our guest can get the hortalizas from our garden directly. As we are an agricultural and ranching area, we invite our guests to know and internalize their activities and in some cases to know their crafts and customs. Belonging to a network such as the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, we are constantly sharing experiences on activities and products that we can inform our guests.

We are members of the most important island΄s associations involved in rural development (AIDER), environmental protection, and in local culture (Tagaragunche). From the beginning the house was rebuilt by my own family but with the help of local carpenters and other workers. The house cleaning is made by a neighbour lady and local products are used as much as possible and recommended to be bought by the visitors.
