France walking and gastronomy holiday
Description of France walking and gastronomy holiday
On this walking and gastronomy holiday you’ll explore the history, culture, food and wine of one of France’s most celebrated regions - Burgundy. Staying in a selection of fine hotels, which include a renovated former winery, a characterful old farmhouse and a modern spa hotel, you’ll walk up to 5.5 hours a day, through vineyards, ancient oak forest and unspoilt villages, and through the streets of the historic regional capital, Dijon.
Highlights of your trip will include the beautifully preserved medieval city of Beaune, pretty-as-a-picture Meursault and the Jean Roland Nature Reserve, which hosts eagles and peregrine falcons, as well as a healthy scattering of wildflowers. This region is also home to more chateaux than any other area of France - and in the grounds of one of them you’ll have the chance to go truffle hunting with Yann and his dog Elfe!
Of course, one of the main attractions of this holiday is the food and drink. You’ll get to sample fantastic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines, regional cheeses including Brillat Savarin and Epoisses, and a whole host of elegant French dishes, such as filet de boeuf flambé à la sauce crème de truffe or sandre aux échalotes confites et au Pommard.
