Description of Vietnam highlights tour

Our tours have a maximum of 14 participants, local guides and airport meet and greet transfers included.

You will be accompanied in every destination by an English-speaking local guide, who will not only ensure that every aspect of logistics is taken care of, but will also give you a fascinating insight into Burmese culture and society, providing an invaluable link to the communities you visit. If the tour has more than 6 participants, then you will also be joined by a full time Tour Leader for additional support.

This twelve night Vietnam holiday, covering many of its wonderful cultural and natural highlights has an itinerary that includes no less than six UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Because Vietnam is stunning that way. Our adventure through this remarkable country starts in Hanoi, where we have a tour of the Old Quarter. We then take an overnight boat trip on the iconic Halong Bay, the world’s largest marine karst landscape, with over 2,000 giant limestone boulders emerging from the waters. This is famously, and rightly, one of the most stunning sights in Vietnam.

After an internal flight we head south to Hoi An, where we get a chance to cycle through rice paddies and car free streets of a town that feels very much unchanged by time. Streets are lit by lanterns, traditional tailors and artisans abound. From Hoi An to Hue where we are chauffeured by cyclo around this magnificent imperial city dating back to the Nguyen Dynasty.

After a couple of days exploring the spectacular scenery at Ninh Binh, we head back to the city life again taking, another flight to Ho Chi Minh, which is like a double espresso hit of cultural caffeine. As well as its historic temples and palaces, lively markets and artisan shops, poignant sites such as the Reunification Palace and War Remnants Museum are moving reminders of Vietnam’s not so distant past. And just to relax a little after the city chaos, we head into the Mekong Delta for some sailing along these stunning waterways where a whole other side of Vietnamese rural life can be seen.

This is a great value trip, but with quite a high pace as we aim to cover a lot of Vietnam in a relatively short time. But we do build in some free time so that you can enjoy time to yourself too.

Hello. If you'd like to chat about this holiday or need help finding one we're very happy to help. Rosy & team.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Vietnam highlights tour

We keep our group tours to a maximum of 14 people for many good reasons. Firstly travelling in a small group creates a light footprint and enables our clients to develop an intimate atmosphere that is great for your appreciation of the places you visit. It also allows us to take advantage of Vietnam’s public transport system, which is good both for environmental reasons and to avoid that feeling of being in a “tour bus bubble”, cut off from local people that we’re sure you’re keen to meet!

On the Highlights of Vietnam tour, we do many walking tours, stay on a traditional boat in beautiful Halong Bay, and in ancient Hue we explore the imperial Citadel by cyclo, a fun and environmentally-friendly way to see the sights and support the local community.

Although 10 days is not a long time to spend in Vietnam, we really pack the cultural learning to help you get beneath the surface of Vietnamese culture and history. In this way you’ll get a great appreciation of the local way of life, and learn to appreciate both the traditional and modern culture of this vibrant and fascinating country. We’ll visit many of the most important historic sites in Vietnam, exploring both the moving remnants of the Vietnam War era in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the Vinh Moc Tunnels, and the ancient places from where Vietnamese culture developed.

In Hanoi, after exploring the town and sampling the fantastic food on offer we’ll pay a visit to the unique Water Puppets, a traditional northern Vietnamese folk art form. Originating more than a thousand years ago in the rivers and rice paddies of the Red River Delta, water puppetry recounts the tales of traditional Vietnamese culture and folklore in unique style. Standing in waist deep water and hidden behind a curtain, puppeteers manoeuvre wooden puppets representing peasants, mandarins and animals, accompanied by live singers and musicians.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Cooking class in Hoi An (although my husband and I had upset stomachs for the following 12 hours), Mango homestay Mekong Delta.

Staying at the Ancient House in Hoi An. Fascinating tour of War Remnants Museum and Cu Chi tunnels (Saigon). Massage at Temple Leaf spa in Saigon.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Always have some VND (say 4x 100,000 notes) but use use mainly US dollars and have a big supply of 5,10, 20 USD notes for tips

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, benefitted local people, especially in Mekong Delts. No, in terms of having to use plastic water bottles to keep hydrated in a hot climate.

No, in terms of being driven everywhere in large 10-12 person vans when there were only 5 passengers thus contributing to the traffic congestion and pollution

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Great itinerary, well done.
