Responsible tourism: Langtang trekking holiday in Nepal

Probably one of the best ways to appreciate the beauty of Nepal is by walking through it. Hiking and backpacking offer both short encounters with nature and communities, as well as longer experiences in learning about the geography, flora, fauna and local culture.

Thus, trekking traverses from the west to the east crossing extremely diverse landscapes: rice-terraces, gigantic rhododendron and fir forests in the lowlands, and in the highest parts you will find rock and shrub wilderness with incredible backdrops of snowy peaks, and an arena of glaciers.

In order to uphold the beauty of this area for eternity, we stay overnight in lodges and teahouse operated by the locals themselves, rather than spending the night in camps and in this way we support the local economy. We discourage our clients from buying bottled water but we provide treated water so the pollution from plastic bottles is reduced.

We carry our trash with us and dispose of it properly, as to preserve the beauty of the Langtang region which is rich in birds, butterflies, and flora; Gosainkunda and other surrounding lakes are high-altitude wetlands that supply freshwater to millions of people living downstream and are also considered sacred to Hindus. Due to our negligence, these resources may suffer from severe depletion or even extinction, so it has been our philosophy that we leave no trace but our footprints.

Langtang is beautiful and a less touristy region of Nepal, marked with colorful prayer flags, massive forests and views of mesmerizing Himalayan peaks. This high land is inhabited by Tibetans and Tamangs. Undoubtedly, you will be fascinated by the lifestyle of these friendly and good humored people. In our pre-departure meeting, we provide notes to our clients regarding do's and don'ts during the trek.

Tourism has become a crucial source of income for the people living in suburbs. Therefore, to support the earnings of local people in the Langtang region, we serve locally prepared meals. We procure the food that is produced in Langtang region and for which the Langtang region is famous. For example, there is a small cheese factory in Langtang village from where you can taste delicious nak (female yak!) cheese and take it to your home.

During our trek, we can spot different species of mushrooms. Also, Helambu is famous for its sweet apples. We also reasonably compensate the locals during our stay in local lodges and teahouse. In this way, it helps to sustain their profession and boost their earnings. We offer job opportunities to the local people and give them good working environment, a fair wage and empower them with training opportunities time and again. This is helpful during the trek, especially to our guides, as they are fully equipped with a first aid kit.
