Description of Antarctic cruise with Chris Packham

This spectacular Antarctic small ship cruise is particularly spectacular given that you are accompanied by a trio of the world’s wisest and most experienced wildlife experts. Chris Packham is an award winning BBC wildlife presenter, leading conservationist, Vice-President of the RSPB and also a great adventurer. Indeed, The Times has summed him up perfectly as ‘the heir to David Attenborough’. Mark Carwardine is an award winning zoologist, leading journalist, broadcaster and wildlife photographer; and, last but not least, Paul Goldstein, is one of our most experienced wildlife guides, committed conservationists and also an award winning photographer.

This Antarctic wildlife cruise takes place at the end of November/early December which is one of the region’s most stunning times to visit. With long daylight hours and sunshine illuminating icebergs and frozen landscapes, this is a bounteous time for penguins, some of them hatching, breeding seal colonies and a chance to see whales; every day is different.

Starting and ending in Ushuaia, Patagonia, you will board and travel to the Antarctica Peninsula and surrounding area on the RCGS Resolute Polar Adventure Ship, a modern, ice strengthened vessel with a maximum capacity of 146 passengers which is reduced to approximately 110 for this one off journey. With a variation of cabin sizes, all ensuite, the ship also boasts wonderful lecture rooms, two bars and lounge areas with 180 degree viewing facilities and a well stocked library. There is also a gym, sauna and steam room, as well as a salt water pool. There are also Zodiac boats for expeditions to see wildlife spectacles up close, including: penguins, petrels and albatross colonies, seals lazing on ice floes, and hopefully, whales basking in the long daylight hours.

Hello. If you'd like to chat about this holiday or need help finding one we're very happy to help. Rosy & team.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Antarctic cruise with Chris Packham

UK office
It all starts at home so we have first worked to reduce our carbon footprint in our UK offices. Through energy conservation measures and recycling policies in place, we are proud to be actively reducing the waste produced and our impact on the environment. We support various projects all over the world to try and give something back to the places we visit.

Leaders & local suppliers
We take extremely seriously our responsibility to minimise our impact on these pristine areas.
We are an Associate Member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) and have agreed to abide by one of the tourism world's most conscientious codes of conduct. Two of our ship operators are also members of the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO), which covers operations in Spitsbergen.

RT Project
Penguin Lifelines
As part of our commitment to conservation and responsible travel, we have teamed up with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) to support Penguin Lifelines, a conservation project designed to research the impact of climate change on Antarctic penguins and understand their population structure and migration patterns.

Antarctic penguin populations are facing serious threats from both climate change and fisheries. In order to make educated conservation decisions, accurate biological data is needed, and therefore we are helping provide the ZSL with access to valuable data through both 'DNA feather printing' and colony counting from photographic records.

Polar Bear Study
The Polar bear’s migratory patterns have long been a mystery to conservationists. With money raised from expeditions and donations, we have made valuable contributions to the purchase of the expensive tracking collars – critical in monitoring their hunting and mating patterns.

Albatross Campaign
Almost half a million US dollars has been raised through staff and passengers towards the ‘Get the Albatross off the Hook’ campaign, aimed at stopping the butchery of albatrosses by long-line fishing.

Scott Polar Research Institute
Finally we support the work of the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge, which is the oldest international centre for Polar Research within a university.
