Description of Peru volunteering holiday, Peruvian adventure

An inspiring Peruvian adventure, this Peru volunteering holiday combines helping a local community with travelling around some of Peruís best known sites. Your project work will take you into the Andes, where simple village homes often lack chimneys. Here, winters are long and cold and local people rely on an open fire for warmth, but without chimneys in their homes, they inhale the smoke. It means this remote area has one of the highest rates of lung cancer in the world. As a volunteer, your job is to build chimneys to improve ventilation and, ultimately, save lives.

This wonderful volunteering experience is balanced with time for travel, too. Explore some of Peruís most famous sights, visiting Machu Picchu before riding the train back down to Ollantaytambo. You will have time in Cusco to visit the famous moon temple, check out the chocolate museum and shop in the markets. There is active adventure, too, with ziplining through valleys and rivers, trekking to the Inca salt mines in the Sacred Valley and biking to the Moray Ruins.

Hello. If you'd like to chat about this holiday or need help finding one we're very happy to help. Rosy & team.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Peru volunteering holiday, Peruvian adventure

Wildlife: By exposing our volunteers to the beauty and serenity of the Andes we hope to enlighten and educate our volunteers on the importance of environmental conservation. Volunteers will also visit an animal sanctuary in Cusco and learn about local conservation efforts.

Building: We build sustainable greenhouses with a goal of providing each house in each village a sustainable and nutritious source of food. We will also be building playgrounds providing local children with something that physically challenges them, mentally stimulates them, and is a source of great fun! The greenhouses and play equipment uses all locally-sourced and environmentally sustainable products that can be repaired and replaced by local villagers.

Suppliers: All building materials, skilled and unskilled labour, food, accommodation and transport is sourced from local villagers and suppliers. We aim to boost local economy and industry through our programs and provide an ongoing source of income and employment for future generations.

Our organisation provides safe and fulfilling opportunities for you to work with village communities and bring real and lasting change to the lives of many.

Volunteers undertake hands on work delivering valuable infrastructure in the areas of education, sanitation and water supply for the benefit of these communities.

Participation in our programs delivers a range of benefits to all participants. The villagers benefit from the new and refurbished infrastructure, the learning opportunities and the friendship and interactions with the volunteers. The volunteers take away a special sense of fulfillment in having made a contribution and a real difference to the lives of others.

In addition our volunteers often make lifelong friendships while involved in experiences that are invaluable in clarifying and assisting in future career goals.

Whenever possible we use local guides, labor and translators so as to add back to the community. We purchase all food and building supplies locally and as much as possible we use environmentally friendly materials.

We endeavour at all times to ensure that we work in as safe an environment as can possibly be arranged. All program venues and equipment are continually monitored to make sure that the highest possible levels of health and safety are met.
