Description of New England and Canadian east coast holiday

This New England and Canadian east coast holiday is a carefully crafted, cross border circuit that takes in mountains, metropolitan greats and myriad historical sites along the way. Starting in the greatest cities of them all, New York City, we head north to the Finger Lakes region, famous for its eleven, long narrow lakes as well as its prolific wine producing region.

The next stop needs little introduction, Niagara Falls, which forms a stunning natural border between the USA and Canada, followed by your first Canadian city break, in Toronto. The capital of Ontario Province, this is a great city of museums, multicultural influences and mighty views from its famous CN Tower.

Your next urban stops of Montreal and Quebec City are bursting with French culture, architecture and history. With a couple of days in each of these stunning cities, you have time to not only explore museums and restaurants but also seek out some optional adventures such as an excursion to Montmorency Falls or a jet boat tour across the Lachine Rapids on the St. Lawrence River.

You can’t visit these great northern regions without immersing yourself in mountain life if even for a short while. Which is why we include Stowe, one of Vermont’s most famous mountain resorts, on our itinerary en route to Boston, and time to enjoy a hiking trail too. With a couple of days to then enjoy Bostonian life, history and superb food, you head back to your starting point of New York City.

Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

We are committed to offering low impact tours that benefit both the places and communities we visit as well as our travellers. It is important for us all to be aware of the delicate balance that exists in the variety of natural wonders you will visit. National Parks and monuments, archaeological sites and other sensitive areas should and must be treated with respect.

We have created a 'Travellers' Code of Conduct' to help prepare and inform our groups of the various positive or negative effects they could have on a destination. The code includes tips on everything from handling wildlife encounters to how you can help to conserve precious natural resources. Our tour leaders will explain this code of conduct during the first night’s orientation talk and encourage you to follow it throughout the tour.

This code includes following the ‘Leave No Trace’ ethic, this is an international campaign that is designed to help us minimise the impact on the National Parks and other wilderness areas that we visit. Some key guidelines we follow include keeping to existing trails, staying in official campgrounds and disposing of all waste responsibly and recycling whatever we can.

We are proud supporters of Bay Area Wilderness Training ( a charity based in Oakland California which works to connect disadvantaged children in the local urban area with the great outdoors. Their work helps to provide these young people with life changing experiences which they can
apply to everyday life. Everyone booking with Grand American Adventures has the option to donate £1/$1/€1 to support this well-deserved charity and we will match this donation.

Whenever possible, we use local accommodation and activity providers. We also shop locally for groceries, eat in small family-run restaurants and visit local shops whenever possible. A highlight of this tour is a visit to a local winery, here you can enjoy a wine tasting experience in a natural setting. This helps generate interest in the region and in turn brings economic benefit to local communities.
