Description of New Zealand gardens tour of Otago
2022: 16 Nov
Accessible tourism overview:
As a small group tour specialist we have carried thousands of New Zealand travellers who have limited mobility, many who have decided our style of touring is right for them and tour with us many times over. We are now able to offer this same experience to our international travellers.
We offer door to door service. Wherever possible accomodation with lifts is chosen or ground floor accommodation is utiilised. We also book rooms designed specifically for limited mobility where available (e.g. with handrails, level flooring throughout etc.). There is no need for the traveller to handle their own luggage as this is taken care of by your friendly Kiwi guide and porterage assistance at the hotels.
Deaf or limited hearing:
All of our tour commentaries that the Kiwi guide utilises throughout the tour are available to be read online. Tours should be suitable for people with hearing limitations, but being accompanied by a hearing friend would be advised.
'Free from' food:
All dietary requirements are catered for. We have excellent communication with our meal providers and are used to requesting dietary requirements.
We have had many LGBT travellers. New Zealand is a progressive country and we provide the same travel experience for all our travellers.
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe are committed to operating environmentally sustainable tours. By nature small group touring using one vehicle to transport multiple clients is more environmentally friendly than usual modes of travel including rental car or campervan. We have monitoring systems in place to ensure our vehicles are serviced and driven in line with the manufacturerís guidelines making the running of the fleet as efficient as possible.
On this tour we visit the heritage listed buildings and grounds of the Waitangi Treaty House contributing to their preservation. A local guide from the small community of Omapere will also helps us explore the Hokianga harbour and sand dunes and other local guides - one from thel Department of Conservation - will help us explore the ancient geothermal wonderland at Wai-O-Tapu and Okarito Lagoon They know the area and so are the best to advise on environmental issues and how to travel responsibly through the area.
We are a Qualmark Approved Visitor Service which means we have been independently reviewed and deemed to operate in an ethical, professional and environmentally sustainable way. Wherever possible we select suppliers that are also Qualmark approved and therefore deemed to operate in an ethical, professional and environmentally sustainable way.
We pay an annual licence and have official accreditation to operate on Department of Conservation land which demonstrates our commitment to the environment and sustainability. Payment of the license fee funds the protection of New Zealandís national parks.
Office: We work from several home offices saving on travel time and fossil fuel consumption. All printer cartridges and paper is recycled. Both home offices water supply is supplied by rain water.
PeopleOn these garden tours we support the local Gardens of Significance visiting several Gardens of Significance on the way. NZGT Gardens of Significance are star rated, from three to six, with six stars replacing the Garden of International Significance classification. On this tour we visit Gardens of National Significance Clachanburn, Janet Blairís garden and Chantecler, an eight acre garden with themed gardens from France, Italy, England, Japan and New Zealand as well as mass plantings of bulbs, rhododendrons, lavenders, azaleas, camellias and peonies.
We also support a multitude of private gardens and the gardeners who have lovingly sowed and grown them for a magnificent result. There are 52 private gardens in New Zealand and a plethora of spectacular little private gardens to admire and explore with our small group fully guided garden tours throughout New Zealand. These gardens have been assessed by experts assuring the highest standards of design, planting, and maintenance at every property and with our support local gardeners can continue to maintain and share these gardens with their local community.
We also where possible visit local craftsmen, markets and restaurants further helping to support the local community. On this tour we visit the famous local seafood restaurant, Fleurís Place in Moeraki, and support the local Victorian Fete in Oamaru.
