Description of 20 day tour of Cuba

To truly unravel the secrets of Cuba you need time, and that’s just what our 20 Day / 19 Night Cuba Group Tour gives you. Combining the country’s engaging culture, enthralling history, and spectacular landscapes, it gives you the chance to explore Cuba from east to west. Discovering the sights and sounds of cities including Havana and Trinidad, the pristine beaches of Baracoa, and the culture of tobacco growing in Vinales are just some of the highlights on this extended tour.

We only need two people on our tour for a guaranteed departure, and the number of guests per tour will never be more than 12, giving you the enjoyment of travelling with others without ever feeling part of a large and unruly crowd.

What’s more, throughout the 20 days of scheduled activities you’ll be escorted by our knowledgeable local guides, who speak excellent English, so you won’t miss a thing. We also provide private air conditioned transport between destinations, as well as your airport transfer on arrival, ensuring your 20 Day / 19 Night Cuba Group Tour starts as it means to go on.

Until very recently your only option as a foreign visitor to Cuba was to stay in large state-run hotels. However, after the government in Havana relaxed rules in private enterprise, a flurry of smaller, friendlier rooms have cropped up across the country. Known as casa particular, they are owned and run by families who open up their houses. As a result, each casa is unique, being both different in size and set-up, but we ensure wherever possible that you will be placed in casas with air conditioning and ensuite facilities.

Your Comfort on Tour
There are two ways to travel around Cuba: comfortably and uncomfortably. Our tour falls very strongly into the first category. To ensure this, our tour includes:
- Your airport transfer on arrival.
- Bottled water on journeys between destinations lasting more than 2 hours.
- Internet access cards giving you 2 hours of internet usage at any of the country’s Wifi hotspots (found in parks and hotels) so you can stay in contact with friends and family.

Free time and optional activities
Our 20 Day Cuba Group Tour is specifically designed to follow a relaxed yet extensive itinerary. We believe it gives the right mix of scheduled activities along with some free time, so you can explore certain aspects of the tour that interest you most in more detail. To enhance your experiences in the country further, we offer a wide range of additional optional activities too.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

This tour is committed to providing travellers with an authentic and unforgettable small group tour experience in Cuba above and below the water.

As an organisation our commitment to Cuba's environment, and the protections of its underwater eco-system is unwavering. For this reason we cap the number of people on the trip, so a group is no larger than 10 people. This enables us to source more authentic accommodation options and local transportation that makes a smaller footprint on the environment.

All of our tour guides, dive instructors and dive hosts are both native to Cuba, and passionate about their country. This is of most importance to us, because we believe in showcasing the very best of Cuba and this starts with knowledgable guides who know the country inside out, for better and for worse. It also allows us to provide local employment and engagement in the community.

Our organisation is a proud supporter of the Coral Reef Alliance that partners with local reef communities around the world to protect coral reefs. We encourage travellers on our tours to follow the 3 R's—reduce, reuse, recycle—to ameliorate the negative impacts of pollution and landfills on the health of our oceans. We also expect them to be respectful of their underwater environment when Scuba diving - to look but not touch and to steer well clear of any sea life.

The Impacts of this Trip

Our ties to Cuba and its people are strong. We have built a network of people across Cuba who we affectionally call our 'Cuban family'. These include tour leaders, local guides, classic car drivers, Casa Particular (homestay owners), local restauranteurs, bar tenders and dive instructors all with there own stories to tell and experiences to share. We believe that giving something back to the community is essential, because it is this community that makes our tours such a success. We work with our fellow travellers, clients, employees, and local contacts to ensure the successes of our business go directly back into the community. This is not only good for the towns and cities we visit but it also gives our travellers more enriched adventures.

Our tours are committed to using local homestay accommodation, making your Cuban experience even more unique and memorable (not to mention fun!). Known as Casa Particulares, this type of accommodation is comfortable for guests and generally has very good facilities. They provide you with a great way to experience Cuban culture and interact with Cuban nationals.

Furthermore the activities we include and recommend in our tours, are ones that most benefit and are representative of the community.

All of our staff and local contacts are treated like family, enabling us to instil a sense of ownership amongst our stakeholders and deliver ongoing support to the Cuban people and economy. We know the country and its people inside out and our endeavour is to show the Cuba we love, live in and respect.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

I really enjoyed my free time in Vinales (20-day tour) walking around the cenotes and observing rural Cuba on my own.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

You only spend about $10 to $25 a day unless you're a heavy drinker.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

It benefited local people as we stayed in casa particulars. We drank bottled water so environmental impact was pretty high.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Cuba is like entering a time warp. Great culture and people. Fun holiday.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Trinidad and the bar-b-que at Baracoa.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Pack lightly and be prepared for excessive exhaust fumes in some places.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Travelling in a group in a modern bus helps reduce the environmental impact. Staying at casas benefits locals.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

This was a bucket list trip for us and ticked nearly all of the boxes. We considered just "winging" it as we have done with a lot of our travels, however, we met a number of people who had great difficulty organising transport between towns etc. This tour took care of all that but with the small group and plenty of free time we never felt "hemmed in".
