Description of Virgin Islands cruise holiday

Spend seven days cruising around the gorgeous US and British Virgin Islands. Your home will be the private yacht Bel Ami, which accommodates just one couple, becoming your very own private floating hotel room! Bel Ami is a certified green sailing vessel, powered only by the sun and wind. This is a unique, all-inclusive cruise, perfect for romantic couples.

Each day is a wonderful mix of exploration and relaxation. In the morning, jump into the sea for a quick splash or a long swim. Enjoy a chilled-out breakfast in the cockpit then bask in the sunlight on deck, smelling the fresh salt air, as Bel Ami glides through the deep blue waters towards the next anchorage, each more beautiful than the last. Come the evening, you can go ashore for a sunset drink or remain in the cockpit for happy hour. And there’s plenty of time to swim, snorkel or just do absolutely nothing...

The cruise’s highlights include Jost Van Dyke island, where you’ll find the Soggy Dollar Bar and Foxy’s (the world’s second most popular New Years destination); Norman Island and the famous Willy-T floating bar and restaurant; snorkelling the Indians and the Caves; Virgin Gorda island and the Baths beach area; the Bitter End in the North Sound and snorkelling at Anegada.

Captain Dave and First Mate Bobbie Rae will welcome you on board. Captain Dave has been sailing around the Virgin Islands since 1977, having begun his sailing life on Long Island Sound as a teenager. He has raced Hobie Cats on the Great Lakes and sailed in the Pacific Northwest and the Med. He has also sailed widely through the Bahamas and east Caribbean, from Bimini to Grenada.

Bel Ami is a world class cruising sailboat, designed with electronic sail controls and modern navigational equipment. It is a no-smoking vessel, with all the comforts of home, including air conditioning, full galley, music and TV system. Lots of great food and drink will be served throughout, making this the perfect romantic cruise experience.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Virgin Islands cruise holiday

Fresh water is a precious commodity, and especially so in the Virgin Islands, which is a semi-desert environment. We savor every drop of water that we have, and practice water conservation in all our activities. Showering is done with special hand held shower heads that allow use of only what is needed. Dishwashing is done using basins to conserve water. Toilets are flushed with salt water only. Our vessel is equipped with a state of the art water maker that has the capability of using wind and solar energy to power the water maker. Use of solar and wind energy are renewable energy sources that reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. Our commitment to saving the planet is manifested in all that we do. Traveling around the islands using the wind energy for our sails is quiet, clean, economical, and fun. Living and traveling on a sailboat is one of the most environmental sustaining efforts that can be done This is what we do.

Traveling amongst the Virgin Islands, we have the greatest respect for our West Indian brothers and sisters, whose ancestors were first brought here from Africa in the slave trade. These are now their islands, and we are grateful. We support local craft makers and artisans, and guests are encouraged to buy local products and attend local festivals. Captain Dave is a founding member of the Virgin Islands Philharmonic Orchestra (first clarinet). Simple things, such as saying "good day" when boarding one of the many safari transportation buses, assures a warm local response. Attending to local dress codes is emphasized, particularly when walking through a village or township. Referring guests to needed services provided by our local brothers and sisters, whether for diving, shopping, or health and wellness issues, is fundamental to our operation. Taking guests to such places as the Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society gives guests the opportunity to experience community projects and contribute if they like.
